fwiw,

I used to know this woman who is still the only genuine dyslexic I have ever met.

She was an artisan, making stuff from blown glass.
Best trick she had though.......she could write upside down and backwards.....in cursive, Just as fast as you or I write out name or anything else. It was nice penmanship but you needed a mirror to appreciate how cool it really was.

Dave

Leonardo da Vinci, who was also dyslexic, used to write that way in his journals.

I am dyslexic. The easiest way to explain it is my eyes see things different than yours do. I have taught myself to "see or decode" things as a nondyslexic person would. The only place on pool I have had a problem is when someone is explaining a shot the way they see things may not be the same as the way I see them on a pool table, so I have to really see the shot to see how it is done. It can make it hard for someone to teach you things on the pool table.

As far as intelligence, it has no effect; it is a problem with the way your eyes "talk" to your brain.

Dyslexia would that throw your game off, I was wondering I think I should get checked out. When I am in school I find myself doing things backwards. I don’t think I am full fledge dyslexic I just think I have some characteristic of it. Anyone here have dyslexia and how have you conquered the pool life.

Tom Cruise has dyslexia (really)...and look how good Vincent was at shooting pool. Just pretend you're Vincent.
BTW, I think wearing shoes or not wearing shoes has more impact on how you play pool than dyslexia.
And doing your homework will have a greater impact on your financial well being later in life than playing pool in lieu of doing it.
Now...go do your homework!!

I'm dyslexic...I used to read and dial the phone upside down, superimpose words and letters and number are still a chore <unless its $$>. The way it affects my pool game is when I have to draw off the side rail and go up or down table. I actually stand there and point my finger to low right/left and simulate with my finger in a twirling motion which way the spin will take off the rail so I dont apply the wrong stuff. Its hard on the reading part cause I have to read everything twice to make sure I didnt change word paths. In short, it was my 6th grade teacher that discovered it and in those days <mid in her 70's> they concidered it a learning disability and they wanted to put me in lower learning skilled classes. She fought them tooth and nail and helped me fade the dyslexia somewhat...I still visit her yearly just to thank her.

I just thought if i was slightly dyslexic i would be seeing patterns backwards, and it could be screwing up my game, maybe not, maybe so. I don't know, anyways off to run 8ball league.

I don’t think it affects playing pool.

I am dyslexic, diagnosed when I was in 3rd grade. This would have been back in 1978, so after getting tested and having it made official nothing happened. No special classes, no extra help, etc. I actually think this was the best thing for me. I never viewed it as a problem, just something to be aware of and be careful about. If I had been shoved into special classes and such I expect I would have eventually started to view myself as a victim. Dyslexia has not hindered me in life at all. I am doing very, very well.

For me, I only notice it when I am in a hurry. I start to see numbers and words transposed (for example: I will “see” 51 instead of “15”). Supposibly, because of dyslexia, I learn differently. Since I have always been this way I have no idea if this is true or not. I seem to learn just fine. I managed to get an undergrad in computer science and later an MBA. Actually, having an MBA does draw my abilities into question :D

You don't have homework because you don't bring any books home.

So, if you see patterns backwards, start from the rear and just work your way forwards. It still amounts to a run out. (Well, it would if you could shoot straight enough to make at least 3 balls in a row to get it started)LOL
