E-Bay seems to be bringing in new buyers every day.

I've just had two pretty successful auctions, A Porper cue brought in $1300 and a Huebler Ivory chess cue brought in almost $1400. They were very good values by dealer standards, but as a seller I am happy with the prices.

Here's an exceptionally clean Palmer window cue I'm selling on E-Bay, no reserve:

That was a spiffy Huebler. Is it just me or does it seem like the real highend stuff not seem to be moving but theres alot of deals to be had for say 1500 and under. I 'm not sure Ebay is the best market for super expensive cues. But I'm pretty new to Ebay as you can tell by my "Not Pool Related" post.

You're right, but there are a lot of deals being made behind the scenes with an introduction through E-Bay.

Once you get into the $2,000 plus range, a lot of issues come into play. The fear that the item might not be as described, or fear of being defrauded. The other issue is that many affluent buyers revel in the buying process, admiring the cue, asking questions, and building a relationship with the seller.
In other words, they are as interested in the buying formalities as they are in obtaining the item.

I blame unprofessional sellers for the lack of high end success. I've sold a number of expensive cues on E-Bay. Trying to squeeze top dollar out of items on E-Bay with fixed prices and too-high reserves will overall result in failure. It is surprising how much cut throat competition there is on the low end of retailing, but how little there is on the high end. A seller must be able to deliver value to the high end as well as great service. Very few sellers have the self displine to accomplish this. In the long run, it's better to keep making base hits than it is to swing for the fences - yet I see people swinging for the fences every day.

Dang

I lost an auction by .75 cents on a Keith Hanssen wrapless. I was the only one bidding and got shot down with 23 minutes left. The search goes on. ;)

Ha - now that's too close!

I recently tried using a bidding program called "Bidnapper" (www.bidnapper.com) . It's great if you're doing a lot of trading. It puts in a bid with about 4 seconds left. Now I can put in a bid and forget about it.

Maybe I jinxed myself. This cue is stuck at $260 and it's the last day. UGH!

I've turned down $550 cash - I think I need my head examined!
