Earl Strickland - Houston, TX

I was reading a Billiards Digest magazine from back in 2017 and it had a list of Players of the Year for both men and women. Back years ago when Earl was POTY it said he was from Houston, TX.

I don't recall Earl ever living in Houston. Anybody recall that or can shed any light here?

I never knew Earl stayed in Houston for a long time.

I almost lived about an hour east of Houston back in the early 1980s.

No, actually about 50 miles east of Houston. Over near Liberty, Texas.

back around 80' when I was in Houston Earl was ,I believe, living in Baytown,Tx & not being old enough to be legally in a bar he used to sneak into the Cork Club on hwy 59 & Bissonnett looking for action & was playing lights out at the time.

I interviewed Texas pool legend Jersey Red for Head Spot, a short-lived newsletter that I produced in the early 90s. Look left and there he is on the cover in my avatar. Red told me that Earl was very much part of the scene in Houston as a 17 year old.
