Earl's comments about 8 ball

I beg your pardon? What a provincial attitude. We play extremely good 8ball up here in Canada, I've played 8ball in pubs in England and Europe.(although with slightly different equipment and rules) To say that Americans have the monopoly on 8 ball is a pile of crap.

double that, in europe if u ask any regular guy to play pool he will asume 95% of the time its 8ball. funny how people make statements without ever been to europe.

8 Ball, sure it's all good.

I like all pool games and I think that the great players can play anything on any equipment with some practice. I do think that the vast majority of the TV watching public (and general public at large for that matter) is more familiar with 8 ball. For many occasional pool players they don't know that games other than 8-ball actually exist. I always thought it was strange that 9-ball rather than 8-ball became the TV game of choice because it is less commonly played if you include all pool players (I don't mean just players in pool halls). I like to watch great players play any game. Given my choice they would play 14.1 but that would be a tough sell on TV. I like 9-ball and can certainly appreciate the shotmaking ability required to be good at the game but I would rather watch the pros play a game where they have some options and have to play a pattern.........I want to see how they think as well as how they shoot. 8-ball has all the elements of good pool: it uses all the pockets and all the balls, you will eventually see all shots, there is offense and defense and pattern play and it's a call-shot game which I like. The break will still be a huge advantage but probably not as great as in 9-ball.

I hope the IPT is successful. Pool is a great game requiring tremendous skills to play at the highest levels. A well televised pro tour with real money could give the game more exposure and legitimize pool for the masses.
