i am not a table mechanic, but i have replaced cloth before. We have a bar that offers free table time on 2, 1980's vintage Valley 4x8 Bar Tables.

They were using an older set of balls and that had worn down in diameter, so the rails were right for the smaller balls.

I donated 2 sets of Aramith Pro 2.25 Balls and 2 Red Dot Cue Balls.

Now when you hit any ball med to hard or the cue ball at 3/4 speed or above, when it hits the facing point of the rail, the balls pop up, launch and jump about 3/4" or more.

What is the easiest way to shim up the rails?

Where are the rail bolts on these type table and how many bolts have to be loosened?

Is there a shimming material that is made for the tables?

Any help for an uneducated player that just want to help the table and the 'Free' pool that we enjoy from the bar owner.

Thanks for any help and info,

Hey mike' did you polish/wax the poolballs? How old is the cloth?
There is several factors that can cause a ball hop...

If it's a coin op you can place a small space heater in the ball trap area with the door removed.. No coin op; stick a hair dryer on med/low in the return hole of the foot end ball box but dont choke the dryer or heater of fresh air, and never leave such a rig unattended'
This will help remove moisture/humidity from the cloth.. Once the table is warmed up use the brissle attachment of a vacuum cleaner to remove any chalk dust and dirt from the playing surface/cloth, clean the balls with a dry cotton towel and try again to see if the hop is still there....

The crud from inside of the table will tack back to the playing surface via the balls'
