I purchased a jump cue made by Aska on Ebay. I didn't know it was an Aska, just thought it was a cheap generic jump cue. I only needed it for a weekend, so didn't want to drop $ for a better one until I decided which one to get.
Anyway, the cue was fine. Solid, made from maple and purlpleheart. The wood's visual craftsmanship was sub-par. At the butt-end the maple and purple were spliced together into a pattern. The edges of the maple in a few spots where it is joined to the purple had little bits of splintering; this was smoothed out and finished, but you can see where it happened in about 3 spots.
One of the sections of purpleheart had a 3-inch long groove in the wood. This was not smoothed out, just finished over, so you can see it and feel it.
Lastly the shaft was almost straight, just a tad out of true in the shaft. It was definitely acceptable and would not affect play. The seller didn't disclose it in the original listing, but was perfectly honest when I asked about it (before bidding).
None of the defects affected play, and the cue seemed to be solid and well constructed. I think this was a matter of "whaddaya expect for $30?"
