Economy Buster Low $20 entry fee events on the Viking Tour

Do you or anyone else know if the viking tour will be doing more of these events with the low entry fees? I can't make this one but I like the idea and format.

I was at the Richard Sweet Memorial event this past weekend and the low entry fees brought out a ton of players. I think they had around 128 for each of the 3 events. It was great to see that many players in a tournament again.

now we're talkin! $80 a piece right now, I really had to cut back this year on the tournaments in my neck of the woods. but if they were even something closer to a $40 or $50 entry, I'd be a lot more likely to play in more of them. Hope this catches on!

I played at the Richard Sweet Memorial event and they had 144 players for main event, not to mention about the same for both minis that they had. I wonder how the tournament director even makes any money as I don't see a green fee other than the tour card or one time play fees.

This may be the new hot ticket for regional tours as most players won't mix it up with good/great/pro players for much more than $20. There were a lot of APA players at the Memorial event that just wanted to give it a shot because of the cheap entry. Best of luck for these events and the players!!

Janis said there will be plenty of these events coming up. He mentioned there will be at least 8 in GA this year + 3-4 in NC, 2-4 in VA. He also has some $5,000 events coming up in LA, MS, AL and NY
 
My thought has always been that if I were a room owner putting up money I would try to make a full field and keep some money in their pockets to spend.

Money in the envelopes at the end almost never are spent in the pool room.

I do understand some players opinions that there needs to be money in the tournament but in the end pool should be about having fun and building a fan base.
Money should come at the higher levels.
 
I heard the other day that when these new formatted Viking Tour events get over 64 players additional money will be added to the event. I just didn't hear how much but knowing the Viking Tours reputation I am sure it will be pretty good.
