ED YOUNG or BENDER???

Has anyone hit w/ both? Would like some opinions. I know both were w/ DPK or they were all in business @ sometime w/ each other(at one time or another). 2 questions!

1. Who has the better hit? (I know it is an opinion...compare 2 other cues)

2. Who has the better resale value? (right now...I know it depends on the market)

Thanks in advance

Sack..I play with a Bender..The cue hits great..My cue starts to taper at 6 inches..Wish it would go to about 11 inches..But other than that it is a great cue..Michael Bender is a true craftsman and his cues are worth every penny..Don:)

I've owned three Benders, sold one and the other will be sold shortly, only because I am not a cue collector. They hold there value EXTREMELY well.
Bender's precision is second to none. I too like to have my taper start further back and have moved the beginning taper line back about 13" and it plays WELL.
I'm sorry I have never played with an Ed Young. Where is he out of?
Bender lives in Delta Juction Alaska. Google that one up...

Ed Young is out of Chicago.

I have played / tried at least 4 different Benders and as much as I really like his work (very clean), I just can't bring myself to buy one. I know a lot of people who swear by the hit of Bender cues and how awesome they play, but when I hit with one, it just does NOT do it for me. Everytime I see someone with a Bender, I always give it another chance, but that cue is really not for me. As you say, it's all personal preference. I really do like Bender's work though and I constantly drool on IndyQ.com, and I really think that for the amount of work he puts into his cues, they really aren't too bad prices.

My preference is with my Ed Young, my primary playing cue. I feel that the hit is so much more lively, i really like the "ping" of the cue, the balance, the taper, and just how easily I can play with it. Of course, different Young cues will play differently.

Also, yes they both worked with DPK at one time or another, but Ed Young STILL works with DPK up to this day. In fact, if you buy a contemporary Ed Young cue, it will be a cue that is partly made by DPK. I dunno what percentage it will be, but I know that they both spilt the work between themselves. Also, they both work in the same shop together. DPK of course, has his own cue-making projects but they both work on Ed Young cues.

I don't know much about holding value, but I do know that Ed Youngs go for really high prices on ebay, much more than what Ed will charge for the cue itself. I think this has to do with supply and demand as with everything else. Also a lot of Ed's cues are in Asia, and you will see them occasionally on ebay. His cues are also low in production and he has a "3" year wait list at the least, so his cues will be rare.

A lot of players in Chicago play with Ed Youngs. There are also a couple of posters here who play with one too, hopefully they will chime in.

I have 2 Benders and like the way they feel and play. His construction and quality are awesome. I took a jewelers lope 15x and looked over every inch of the cue when I got it, and not a flaw in the cue, and it was a 20+20 recut point cue. Mike is a prefectionist, if it's not perfect, it's firewood. I shot with a Young cue, but not long enough to judge, it hit good, but not like a Bender. I have another one on order with Mike, and I hope to have it in August, so that will make 3. My bet is for a Bender.

I play primarily with a bender. I actually prefer Mike's older shaft taper than the one that he uses currently. His older taper was alot stiffer. Couple that with ivory ferrule and a hard sumo tip and you got yourself a cannon, just the way I like it. Also newer Benders sport a slimmer butt.

Mike makes a great cue, workmanship is flawless. His cue is undervalued though. He should command a higher tag than what he is charging..

I've heard from a good source that Ed Young said that if he didnt make cues, he would play with a Bender. Take that for what its worth. I think I have a pretty reliable source.

Never played with a Ed Young before but I do own a Kersh. If the Young hits anywhere close to a Kersh, then you are in for a real treat!. Still waiting for Raemondo to let me try out his Ed Young...

I have a Bender and a SW. I like the feel and the play of the Bender better than the SW.

In the future please refrain from making such a statement as I have Xed-out above about Bender cues. You must be made of money to say such a thing. Mike doesn't need any help raising the price of his cues. ;)
