Efren and Busta to Boycott Asian 9 Ball Tour?

It's a nice change...

hopefully for the better.

Don't get me wrong, I worship Efren and Django, but ESPN-StarSports needs the almighty $$$ to run this kind of show and Guiness stepped up to the golden plate.

There is a whole lot of talent that will step up to replace Efren and Dyango. Specially the Bugsy boys.

When there were no Asian 9 ball tour, nobody seems to think about establishing one. When SMB created the tour and made it successful, then suddenly everyone wants to jump in and grab the opportunity, like what Guinness did. Instead of creating another one, they grab what was already a success. It is just unfair to SMB in my opinion. But still I want to see what was really the agreement.

Are you sure that SMB is the creator? I don't think SMB will give it up if they created this.

ESPN owns the tour. SMB/SMC is the major sponsor when it was created and had naming rights to the tour. It's a business decision that ESPN took and I hope it's at least a 3 to 5 year commitment by Guiness.

Ok this is more a much more sensible debate now. Some of those early posts had me thinking i was crazy.

BIG DIFFERENCE!!! Jordan did not boycott. He (as well as a few other players) said I can not wear a uniform with a certain corporate logo on it. Remember players covering the logo with their towel?

Puyat is refusing to allow his players to play to PUNISH ESPN. That is why the headline includes the word "BACKLASH". He is in a sense saying "Since you did that, I will do this. And your turnout and interest will suffer". Believing that people will not be as supportive if Bata and Django are not there. So we are back to my original point. He believes these two players are bigger than the game.

You still did not explain how this implies the players are bigger than the game. What you say only means they are important to the game. Of course people will care if Efren and Busta are not there....but how does that imply they are bigger than the game??? That makes no sense.

In any case, if you think Puyat thinks his players are bigger than the game, you assume that Puyat's reason for boycotting the tour is that he wants to negatively affect the tour or the game. How do you know his reason for boycotting the tour and pulling Reyes and Busta is not simply because of his dedication to SMB and his disappointment in ESPN?

Are they boycotting or are they restrained by contractual agreements? Why even guess that this is the reason? Efren, Django and Phil. Pool has always been supported by SMC thus SMC is very much instrumental with the state of pool here. Bottomline is, Filipinos believe in the saying "Do not bite the hand that feeds you".

I think San Miguel is in the process of strengthening its bottom line. It has stopped its sponsorship of the San Miguel Orchestra. It has already divested its share in Coca-Cola, selling that part of its operation back to Coca-Cola International. [Considering that Coke has 75% of the cola market in the Philippines, SMB must have a good reason to let go of this gold mine. Speculation is that Coke Intl has been slow in reacting to recent changes in the Philippine beverage market when it let upstarts (Cool and Clean, One) take control of the burgeoning healthy/ready-to-drink iced tea segment which is steadily eating into cola market. Coke was late to respond with its ready to drink Nestea Iced tea brand and this riled SMC boss Eduardo Cojuangco.] So it can only mean that maybe it wasn't interested in matching Guiness' offer to ESPN because of some belt-tightening measures.

Because of the word "BACKLASH". The headline could have just as easily said "ESPN gets "PUNISHED" for choosing the Ginuess tour"

That seems right to me as well. Hence why it's not fair to Puyat to just claim he thinks his players are somehow bigger than the sport.

I haven't run my DSM in the 1/4, I road race mostly. But it should run low 12s. It's nearing 400whp. Thanks for asking.

Glad to see that I am not alone in my thinking!

I thought I was going mad too when I read the few very sentimental portrayals of Efren and Busta's relationship with Puyat and SMB.

If Puyat decides to go through with this, the biggest losers will be Efren and Bustamante. The tour will not suffer, except in the abstract on forums such as this one...people will lament on their absence but Asian pool fans will continue to watch the tour.
