Thank Pat Fleming for opening up his treasure vault. Thanks for uploading these matches!
Really? I think most would have taken the goat. Thanks to Pat and thanks for the link. Exciting even though I was pretty sure of the outcome.
Perhaps you’ll think I cheated. But I am pretty sure I saw the finals match in ‘95 and recalled that Kim was the defending champion. Maybe I was mistaken on both accounts.Really? I think most would have taken the goat.
Where did KD play out there in his early days?Perhaps you’ll think I cheated. But I am pretty sure I saw the finals match in ‘95 and recalled that Kim was the defending champion. Maybe I was mistaken on both accounts.
I lived in Modesto while Kim was establishing his game. I loved being able to watch him play often.
Not in Reno, not a chance. Kim was the favorite. I remember that match. I wasn’t there that particular time but knew the result. Kim had a tremendous record there, Johnny Archer and Segal and Earl did good there as well.Really? I think most would have taken the goat.
Ferroni’s Family Billiards in Modesto. But he played in a lot of pool halls in the area, too.Where did KD play out there in his early days?
Kim came up in Modesto Ca. I met him in 85, he’d been plying a few years then.Where did KD play out there in his early days?

If you had KD in this match then you were in DEEP sweat mode for quite a while. Helluva shoot-out.Not in Reno, not a chance. Kim was the favorite. I remember that match. There was 2 tourneys a year, so there’s lots of winners but they dominated it. I payed it a few times. Dead money lol. Was fun tho. First time I went was June 85-I was hooked after that. Changed my life forever, even being dead $.

Teacher John drew the picture and ID’d everybody later in the thread you provided.Found a cool old poster: Info on it: https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/can-anyone-id-all-these-players.421299/
I used to know the guy (John) that drew those every year. His attention to detail was amazing. There would be thjngs on his posters that you would only notice if you were part of the Ferroni scene. Subtle stuff. They are tremendous, I can’t recall his last name. Was a solid player too. Fun times, that was a great room.Found a cool old poster: Info on it: https://forums.azbilliards.com/threads/can-anyone-id-all-these-players.421299/

When Barry expanded to Blvd Billiards up the street, we had a “better room” but some of the charm and magic of the other room was forever gone, then Barry passed. Bob Wong took over-great guy as well. He passed, I saw him in the Mirage one night as I had left Modesto area and was living in Vegas. That was the last time I saw Bob. Good memories.
Watching Kim was my plan to develop my stroke, I kinda hit the ball like Kim, I am a donkey in speed compared to him, but I did develop a “pretty” stroke and appeared to play better than I ever did-not good for action.
I have lots of Modesto stories, was a great action town. Lots of good players there. More than Stockton which is close by and back then about the same size. Modesto just had stronger players. The gamble level was great in both places. A few nits, but that’s anywhere.
