I believe that sort of thing happened during the Cardiff Championships in '99. One of the commentors even mentioned it on the air that Effie played some snooker games with some snooker pros and won. So I guess Daryl wasn't lying after all. But when Effie said that he didn't played snooker before, clearly he was lying. He played alongside Leonardo Andam in snooker during the late 80's but not that much that the both of them make a living out of it. I believe it's a part of the hustler's code "never reveal your aces".

Efren had several centuries using his pool cue, including the first one of the tournament (at least that's what I understood him to say). He received a bracelet for it. Reyes also was quick to point out that Ronnie also got a bracelet. The tournament didn't pay out money. He and his backer didn't stay around for the end.
He played Ronnie the side games getting 25 points. But, he still had century breaks, so take that for what it's worth. The tables were different than what a UK snooker player might be used to. Suffice it to say, Reyes certainly wouldn't know any better as snooker isn't his game.
He says he couldn't beat snooker players. This after he told me he had centuries in beating the now current greatest snooker player. He also says he "got lucky" every time he wins a tournament. For whatever that's worth.

They played several times. Mizerak beat Davis in one frame in their first meeting having a few 50+ breaks. Davis easily won the set. Davis beat Mizerak in one game of 14.1 running a 70+. Mizerak won the set.

My point is that Effie had some experience playing snooker already. When I read the thread I thought he was starting from a clean slate.
With Effie's pocketing skill and tremendous cue ball control, I can imagine him fairing well in snooker.

I got like $23 bucks on Efren.
Ronnie will, of course, crush Efren in snooker. He might have a chance, too, in straight. But in all the other games, it will be no contest. I am not sure you will have any takers for Ronnie on this one.
The interview with Daryl happened in 2004 and the meeting among Ronnie and Jimmy and Efren supposedly happened six years before, which would put it around 1999, the year Efren won the WPC 9ball crown in Cardiff. I thought at first it happened in Cardiff, but Cornerman said he talked to Efren about it and Efren said it happened in Bangkok. Unless Daryl witnessed and was talking of a different match, I'll take Cornerman's word for it.

All games on 10ft pool table, 4" pockets
Its silly to suggest a match up and have an uneven split of games on a pool table. Thats like suggesting they play English Billiards, Snooker, Golf on a Snooker table and a game of 9 ball on a pool table.
These 3 match ups obviously favor Efren because there are 2 pool games so split the table size difference.
I'd pay good money to watch this match up, I think it would be very close under these exact conditions.

Ive got a gold medal in snooker but I don't play snooker. I play pool. I never play snooker. Just went in the comp because it was in a plush venue. Its no big deal so I can understand Efren when he says he never played snooker when you take into account filipino language operates in the present tense.

Ronnie's cueing action is perfect, Efren's isn't, but...Efren has got so much more knowledge of pool games. I don't think one can overcome lack of experience no matter how talented he may be.
If we talk about very long races I think no matter what game they play:
- if they use pool table cushions, Simonis cloth, pool balls and straight cut pockets (even very small) Efren is heavy favourite, but would Ronnie still have a small chance because he's younger
- if they use snooker cushions, rounded pockets and napped cloth Ronnie is favourite by far, zero chance for Efren here

Cornerman, dont get upset so easily. I was referring to this excerpt. I didn't say it was a "BIG DEAL LIE".
If that match happened in Thailand during '98, then the one in Cardiff was another.
