No offense to Efren, because I'm not fluent in any second language, but I don't think he understands about half of what is said to him in English
i think efren did.
guy: what is the prize?
efren: i think every win, $1000
guy: ok, everyone's gonna be buying in for $1000... so is it winner-take-all?
efren: (confused because he already said $1000 per win) yeah... if you win you get $1000; if you lose, nothing.
...
guy: how's the Philippines doing?
efren: Philippines... now it's ok. I've been playing in the Philippines for everybody because a lot of pool player(s) like to play me now. a lot of young player(s) wanna play me.
guy: how many hours you playing everyday now?
efren: not really. sometimes i dont play everyday. (i play pool) only if i play somebody.
...
efren: ...then i'm next game for playing a TAR. i got a schedule for TAR game.
guy: yes that's right, efren will be playing a TAR match. what is the date on the TAR match?
efren: i think it's gonna be 26, 27, 28
guy: 26, 27 & 28, he's gonna be playing SVB. all-around right? 8-ball...
efren:...10-ball and 1-pocket
guy: ok. how do you feel about it?
efren: i dont know... SVB is a good player. he's learning too much about 1-pocket. he break(s) good ... to (at) 10-ball & 8-ball.
guy: he played alex for 3 days ... did you hear about that one?
efren: naahh... (no)
guy: (explains the alex-SVB match) so you're right, shane is playing very good 1-pocket.
efren: yes. he's very strong playing 10-ball because he's gotta strong break.
guy: ...and you're also playing on the diamond table. do you like diamond table better or...?
efren: i get (have) diamond table at home.
guy: oh you do. ok. that's good.
for a person like efren reyes who did not really have formal education (where filipinos learn the english language), his comprehension and response in an English conversation is pretty good. if everyone here spoke/understood tagalog and hear efren speak it, then a lot would realize how intelligent this person is.
