Efren vs. Jose

Most probably most of you have read on Parica's statement
on BD (Billiard's Digest) regarding he and Efren, and how he
beat efren many times. I don't know about that although
a filipino as i am, but as far as i am concern as how many
times i saw them playing looks like efren has the edge.
Nevertheless in my opinion to settle who is the best of
them both is to have a one-on-one match like efren
and earl has for 2 times on Color of Money, in which
efren won on both times.

Would it be possible that a Color of Money thing would
happen given the media exposure and hype that they have now both
regarding there rivalry ?

What do you think guys.

I don't know Cebuano, people with money will have to put it up. I think most people think Efren is the better player so whose going to back Jose? Jose has to show that he's a real threat to beat Efren or I don't think it will ever happen. Jose said it in BD, he has to get his respect in tournaments. Most people don't see the gambling games but they do see the tournaments. If Jose can start winning a lot of tournaments, there's a chance they will do the "Color of Money" match.

No need to. The proof is in the pudding.
Efren has won more titles and a ton more money than Jose.
It is true that Efren and Bustamante have never beat Jose in a finals of a major tournament but Jose turns around and loses to lesser players like Santos Sambajon.
Efren has been to 4 US Open finals ( won one). Jose has gone to one US Open final and lost. Efren has three world 8-ball titles.

But in terms of recognition even way back it was Jose that was well known. Even my mom said Amang was the hype back then. If Amang won more big tournaments then he would certainly get alot more recognitions. Like c'mon he doesn't even attent the WPC I don't know if they invite him but if not at least try out for it. I believe he deserves more recognitions than for what he has right now, but he should really stop bitchin and do more action. I was shocked at all the bitchin and crying he had on BD. I never knew he was that much of a cry baby.

Immonen Vs Efren? It was a very good match between these two during the 1st Philippine Open last year.
Yeah, Amang was really well known then but i heard how he abused his health and all that. Plus, Efren is very well liked and respected because of his humbleness. But still, would love to see these 2 play against each other...

Just a note of interest. When Efren and Ralf were going to play the 9 ball finals at the DCC tournament, they posted some personal information for each player. When asked which player had the most impact on him as he was coming up, Efren listed Jose.

I been lucky enough to read the BD article on Jose Parica, after reading I have come up with several conclusions. He truly is overlooked as one of, if not the best $$$ player of the last 15-18 years here taking down who he has. His tournament career is nothing but solid and he is not a spring chicken. I saw him play in the senior event last year in Naples and thought to myself "he cant beat Nick, Nick is stealing"...well Jose won that tourney like Grant took Richmond. He played in a 2k added 9-ball tournament I held in 1986 or so and ran away with that as well. I always liked to watch him play but now feel that he may be one of my favorites. Now I ask...how long should he be overlooked by the industry for a HOF nomination? I'm not pitchin for the guy, his cue does that real well!!

Voodoo~~~knows opinions are like...

That's what I think, he should let his cue do all the talking.

First of all, tournaments are not a true test of skill. If tournaments had "ahead set" formats, tournament results would be a lot different.

Second of all, 9-ball is not a true test of pool skill. It's a test, by and large, of how hard you break while exercising cue-ball control.

The most exciting matchup in the world today would be Efren Reyes vs. Jose Parica 6-ahead in ONE POCKET for $________ (definitely has to be at least 20 grand)

And the fact is that no one in the world has to be the favorite against Jose Parica in an ahead set at One Pocket.

He had to, he knows who came first. Parica was the first Phillipino to really break out onto the scene.

Actually it was Filipino Gene. lol
Now, if Jose can as congenial as Efren...

Jose has always been candid and willing to express his opinions. Unlike many other players he is always willing to talk to you personally and tell you of his history. I never heard him whine or complain. All he has said is "Oh Yeah I beat him". He has beaten and played everybody. Billiard Digest, while not known for its excellence in Journalism, is only the reporters or interviewers opinion. I am still irked with BD when Jose won the player of the year and did not give him the cover as they did with everyone else. Instead that month they put Jennifer Chen on the cover even when that year she did not win a single tournament and now they give him a cover in a somewhat negative manner. That by the way was the same year Santos Sambajon gave her the 6,7,and the 8 and the breaks and reduced her to a whimpering puppy dog for a G a set. Jose has always been a man of integrity even though he loves the gamble.

Speaking of WPC, last year when Steve Davis was commenting
on the side, and Efren was playing his commentary partner
mention Jose Parica and i still remember he says "who is Parica?" .
And then a Filipino who watch the television that time text
(using cellphone of course) them and told them that Parica was the
one before Efren does...he was surprised...And i believe that would
be 1 classic example of how unrecognized and probably underrated
he is. I mean hey with Steve Davis' caliber who is playing
pool as much as snooker he should know this guy.
But like you Cardinal i would say his cue should do the talkin' if he wants
to get others ( who don't know him of course ) attention he should
be playing very good this year, especially that pool is getting popular
by the day and secondly the year just started out and he could
pile points/money if he wants if he plays very well.

And hey if there is somebody who has connection with WPC
out there. I think they should consider Parica this year, i want
to see him playing along with Efren, Busta and others.... ;)
Just a wish of course...and you know wish could come true... ;)

Joseph Cues,

Jose will never be Efren. I'm glad that we get to see Jose just as he is!

Oh I don't think you can ever say "never" in this game. Jose and Efren are much closer in skill level than you think. Efren could have a bad day and Jose could have a good one and that is all it would take my friend. That applies to most of the top players; any one of them could beat another one with similar conditions. They are all very good players. I watched Gallego and Efren play in Reno one year and they both played in the high 900's. Efren barely pulled it out.

Santos Sambajon can beat Efren, Busta, Parica, and any other top player at any given time, and they can beat him at any given time. He's not a lesser player anymore, he's one of the best Filipino players in the US right now. Have you ever seen him play when he's in stroke?
