What are the differences in playability between ivory and elforyn?

Can you tell the difference if 2 cues were the exact same but one had an ivory joint OR ferrule and the other elforyn?

I had a predator 314/2 with an ivory ferrule and one with a factory ferrule(titan), both with wizard medium tips and I THOUGHT I could tell the difference but the two had different size ferrules. The ivory ferrule was about a quarter inch longer and had a pad under the tip. Was the difference in the pad? In the shorter ferrule? or in the material? Or was it just in my head?

I'm sure the ivory lovers will say" Oh man, you can't beat the hit of ivory!" But could they REALLY tell?

what say you?

Elforyn is going to hit a little harder! More of a tink sound to the hit also! I prefer Ivory joint by far.

im not a big fan of elforyn. nothing beats the feel of ivory so i thinks its not nearly as nice. its not as rigid as say ageus II or other harder whites but its not so soft it feels nasty. it also depends on how its installed sleeved or capped. id go sleeved personally

Is the elforyn more durable and less likely to have a problem then the ivory?

From what I've read/heard, elforyn is less brittle and doesn't crack like ivory can. But if ivory is taken care of, you won't have a problem with ivory.

I don't know about elforyn but I can tell you about Ivory. I have 6 shafts with ivory ferrules that are approximatley 20 years old. I have not once had a problem with ivory ferrules.

Yes, I can tell a difference between ivory and other ferrules types. I have been playing with Ivory ferrules for 20 years. Many things can alter the feel (Hit) of the ferrule, which includes but not limited to: Length, Diameter, Pad / No Pad, Capped, Uncapped, Quality of Material and type of tip.

So with different combinations, do you think it could be possible to get a elforyn ferrule to play like a ivory one?

Anything is possible. Ivory ferrules, as with any ferrule material, you can soften or harden the feel of the hit.

elfron

I am not a fan of elfron for ferrule material. I could never get it to polish up. But as far as ivory goes, I don't like the hit of it either. I like ivorex or linen. But I like it for joint and Butt cap material. I have never had much problem with ivory ferruls cracking. Joints, that is a different story. I have had a lot of them crack. Everyone seems to have a different spin on how to put them on, but I have tried everything. I think it is a matter of getting lucky. Butterflycues
