elk master/milk dud

Hey guys, I picked up some elk master an want to turn them into milk duds just for something to do. I have one soaking in milk right now and gonna let it soak for 24 hours then press it in vice. I was thinking of looking for maybe a wood dowel or something and use the dime side of the ultimate tool and compress in a vice, sound ok to u? Anyone see something wrong with this? Now how long do u guys think I should leave it in the vice to compress? Also what is the life expectancy of a milk dud? Does this shorten the life of the tip or because it is being compressed an hardened will I get a longer life on the tip?

I have a 48 man double elimination 8 ball bar box (race to 5) tourney this Saturday so I have been in a pool mode for a few weeks now.

there has been multiple discussions on the matter of milk duds. I've prepared about a dozen last week with a special tip jig for pressing. You can either use a dome shaped thing with your vice or can just use two coins like I did with my first duds experience.
Following that link you can find a picture of my first ones:

Now when I used a jig they all are dome shaped which didn't add that nuch height I expected. So it doesn't make that much difference if you don't press them very tight.
I didn't try the hardest I made so can't tell if they could crack or be uncomfortable to play. If you predd them medium I'm sure they will play nicely with enough spin and will last very long because they will get hardened and glued inside with caseine (that's the purpose of using milk).
Be sure to take your time and practise enough with your new tip because it mught require to adjust.
