end grain on shaft

How do you get rid of that textured feeling of end grain on the end of the shaft near the ferrule. It's harder than the surrounding grain & it feels raised when I slide it through my bridge hand.

Try coating it with super glue then fine sand.

Use a set of calipers and sand it perfectly flush with ferrule. It is more common to get a slight dip behind ferrule from improper sanding, so be very careful and make sure this work is done on a lathe.

thanks guys, I have a drill set up, the area in question is about 1" behind the ferrule so I'll trying babying it and feathering it in
