Does anyone have any info on the field? I know at Masters Ralf said he was planning on playing but im wondering if the $200/nite hotel siuation is limiting the field.

Free admission? Im not sure i like that. I can see it for the Finals so that they are insured of a good crowd for TV purposes but Wed and Thurs at Slates-Why then? Every bust-out will be there blocking my view!

All I can tell you is that the field wasn't full as of last night. I'm sure the hotel has something to do with it. The field should be fairly strong anyway I imagine but with Johnny, Rodney and Charlie in Korea this weekend we'll see if they all make it back in time to play.

i think free is a good idea. that way, i can go check out who's playing, decide that it's not worth the train ride, and come back home. :)

I don't get the whole Slate thing... Do they actually have pool tables? The ones that you can actually play on? :p

Yeah, last year I heard The Summit was expensive and not worth the effort. Maybe this year we'll cut out the "expensive" part... which is amazing since this is New York, where carrots cost more than filet mignon in Florida.

yes and no. it cost a lot IF you paid. but they left everything open so that commuters could stand and watch. basically, you paid to get a seat.

i don't get slate doing this for free unless they're hurtin', cuz this place is strictly bar scene with tables. slate has lots of crappy tables with something akin to candlelighting. obviously they will change that.

Yeah, they're going to use the tables upstairs and they're going to rearrange them for maximum space (they're only going to use about 6 tables I think). Also, they're going to recloth them as well.

I take it ...

that it is in New York, but what are the actual
tournament days? And what is the prize fund?

Yep. I guess I just didn't go last year. That's that. I hear Slate still got some of the tables from the Chelsea days "somewheh' upstois". Likely someone is going to do all the arrangements for them. I doubt there's anyone working there knows what in hell Simonis is.
