Epiphany needed

I think I need an epiphany. Lately I have been losing too many matches. And that is against equal skill levels. Despite the fact that I practice 10-15 hrs a week and my game seems to be getting better, I seem to be distracted lately by the loud (very) music that pervades most of the bars we (the team) play in. I am perfectly capable of slipping into my zone when playing to the point that everyone around is like a blur. It is my way. I neither talk to nor look at anyone. My eye never leaves the table. I have to admit one thing: I have been changing my game approach to a more defensive one, and that may be effecting my rhythm on the table. Could this be a factor. I noticed that I am also playing less aggressive than when I practice. Have I got a new learning curve going here?????:confused:

I'm being generous calling some of these places bars rather than the dives they are.

TIP: Read the book "The Inner Game of Tennis" ... its a landmark book talking about sports psychology and it will help

Or Pleasures of Small Motions by Bob Fancher...the best book I have ever read on the subject of the mental part of pool.

Please give me a call

Steve:
I would like to talk to you about some instruction. Could you please give me a call at 256 825-8544 or e-mail me at nelldrake@lakemartin.net? I will call you if you will furnish me with your phone number.

Reading both of the suggested books may help you. You may also want to consider developing solid pre-shot routines that include a mantra. This can help you keep focused on your process. As RandyG likes to say. "Mumble Mumble Mumble"

I went to Borders and while feasting on a White chocolate mocha with whipped cream and chocolate shavings and oatmeal cookie I reviewed the tennis book. I ended up buying it and will read it. I will also review the other one when I finish the tennis book.

Thanks for the recos. I anticipate progress.:thumbup:
