Could it be that just like paper-rock-scissors, the state of pool is such that america beats europe, europe beats asia, and asia beats america?

this would explain that while the germans are the best in the world at the moment, team europe can still not beat america in the mosconi cup.

I think a lot of that has to do with the players that are picked and available for the Mosconi Cup. Just as we have to put up with Charlie Williams being on the team every year and being somewhat questionable, they also have Steve Davis on the team every year while it is known that better players exist for their team.

Steve Davis was "left off" (unable to participate due to his schedule) team Europe last year and replaced with Raj Hundal IIRC. I think we all know why Charlie Williams is seleced year in and year out for the American team.

I was watching the final match of the 04 Mosconi Cup between Davis and Williams yesterday and it was the worst pool I've ever seen, on TV atleast. I quit counting their mistakes at a dozen
