Epoxy Recommendations

Just getting started on cue building, wondering if there is a "favorite" out there for epoxy brands that works well on cues and shafts..

West System, BSI Quick, BSI Slow. Ordered Max 1618 but haven't used it yet.

West 105/205/206, BSI finish cure and 3M DP420 is what I use. I have BSI 30 min epoxy for instances where the customer needs the repair right away, but I almost never use it. I prefer a thinner, slow curing epoxy, it's a lot stronger than the quick set stuff.

This might be helpful for some

I ended up using the West G/Flex 650 system on my last few. So far, I like it but the cure time of 3 hours is a bit long so I may go with 105/206 if I need a faster cure.

Anyone try the West System 207SA hardener? It doesn't show up on their website but I see it for sale on Amazon

Didn't know 206 was faster than GFlex
Didn't know it was workable after less than 3 hours
I like 206 for collars, caps, joint screws and A-joint because it's slow and gets really hard.
What's the hurry? Overnight epoxy are better.

Agree with you on that. The website does not do a good job of comparing the GFlex product to the 105/20x line so it is hard to know which is faster, slower, stronger, etc. I bought the GFlex due to the small bottle size (~4 oz?). The quart size of 105 is the smallest I've found and will likely go bad well before I consume that much product.

105 never goes bad if you store it right.
The hardeners go bad but.takes a long time and abuse too.
You can store them in little bottles and seal the cans.

Or just buy in smaller containers. I date epoxy when it comes in. Anything longer than 12-14 months in the shop and it goes in the trash.
Why you ask? Build a cue with some old epoxy and find out. Fresh epoxy is the best.
