Equivalent ranking

If you are a 4 in golf, where does that put you, in comparison to all other golfers. If you take that slot, and give it a FargoRate, what would that number be?

No, not NPR, definitely pool related. Lots of guys on here play both. If you’ve reached a certain level in one, what is the equivalent level in the other. For instance, PT109 has played both at a high level

The USGA has a detailed page with this information for golf in the US: https://www.usga.org/handicapping/us-stats.html

A 4 handicap for men puts you roughly in the 94th percentile among people with handicaps.

FargoRate also recently posted this: https://www.facebook.com/fargorate/...EazJC52bR9E9S547kiCu8Wd3d1gSQs3tRgk9v1JefCHMl

In that post they say that among male players the mean is 499 and SD is 98.5. This implies a 94th percentile rating of about 670.

The main issue here is that Fargo's population is heavily upwardly biased in terms of skill level compared to golf handicaps - despite millions of people playing pool every year only 65,000 players have an established Fargo rating. By contrast 3 million players have a USGA handicap. Because of this I don't think it's legit to compare 94th percentile Fargo to 94th percentile USGA handicap.

Excellent post, I think you nailed it. I shouldn’t be so disappointed with my progress. But damn, it feels like I should be 670🤣. At this stage of life, I’ll never get there. I’m gonna keep trying though.
