I found the idea of watching pool more interesting than the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, ESPN is horrible at pool/billiards video production, in my opinion. It's polished, but really hacks up the match, even when they show all the racks.
For example, in the match they aired last Sunday, with Karen Corr vs. Allison Fisher, ESPN cut away to video interviews during some crucial shots. If I recall correctly, one of the shots missed was the shot of the match, which they played back after the match was over. The other shot (a couple of shots actually) I had to guess what happened because they did not go back and describe what happened.
The videos on Billiard Club Network, while not as polished, are more satisfying to watch than the ESPN productions. It was a fairly ridiculous. I wish they would offer these matches via streaming video on the ESPN Web site. They could offer more of them, as it wouldn't steal away from air-time from other shows. And they can leverage the fact that it doesn't have to fit a traditional television time-slot, and produce it to a length that accommodates and respects the pool match.
Ay, it's just wishful thinking.
OMG, that really drove me nuts too! I remember thinking when Allison was on the 2 ball ... hrm, how's she gonna get over to that 4 ball near the side after the 3?
Then it cuts to some interview with Karen Corr talking about how they played in the last tournament and by the time it comes back Allison is on a simple 7,8,9 finishing run. Whoever edits these things should be SHOT! Why wouldn't you put the interview during some of the simple connect the dot runs instead of the tougher shots?
All I could picture was the guy in the edit room laughing has butt off saying "I'll show this cut out film to my buddies and everyone else will be pissed they couldn't see it, muahahaha".
