Am I the only person who thinks the explanation for the ESPN Mosconi Cup mix up on the 28th (see billiardsdigest.com) is a bunch of crap? Let's see, the tournament finished up on the 21st, and it was slated to air a week later on the 28th. In a week, a huge cable network (with the backing of Disney, no less) can't edit 6 hours worth of pool? They couldn't license the music? What is that? Between ABC, Disney, Family Channel, the various flavors of ESPN, et al, they couldn't license the music? Yet somehow, week in, week out, they can license the latest teeny-bopper crap for background noise during all the football and basketball pre-game coverage, and in-game teasers. They only have a week for those programs, yet they come off without a hitch, and every other week, either CBS or FOX has 6 hours of football coverage. Come on, that's got to be the biggest load of garbage I've ever heard.
I have a feeling that if this were golf or bowling, all problems would've been solved in time to air. My guess is that the advertising sold was either incredibly cheap, or ESPN didn't sell enough to warrant 6 straight hours of new pool, so they just dropped it altogether. I'd also be willing to bet that when ESPN does finally show the 2003 Mosconi Cup, it's not going to be in one big block like it was slated to be on Sunday. It'll be squeezed into one hour blocks at 1:00 am every couple of months, in between the jump rope championships and cowshit tossing.
I honestly don't know what the problem is, this is just conjecture, but there's gotta be a better explanation than what we've been given. No licensing for music? Come on ESPN, quit yanking my chain. I was very much looking forward to watching the coverage, thinking that this might be a boon to pool, with a 6 hour block of a RECENT event, but no, that was all tossed off because of *AHEM* a lack of music licensing. Sounds like bullshit to me.
