Thanks to Dennis I was able to watch the matches (7Ball / 9Ball) with the legends of pocket billiards initiated by ESPN. I was great to see these guys shooting though the were over theyre heydays...

It was the first time I saw Mosconi shooting....He was impressive. Not so much his game but his determination to it. He must have been an absolute killer (like stated anywhere) but you could easily tell by the expression in his eyes. He really hates loosing to anybody, regardless of game or speed.. After watching him I truly believe in all the stories about him not beeing easy to get along with ....

From all the oldtimers U.J. Puckett was very impressive too. I only know him from old reports, CJ Wileys Billard Palace (He has picture hung up there). I think while these matches where recorded he was over 70 already and still shooting pretty good. Does anyone know a littel more about his pool live????

PS: What sort of hat is that he's wearing????????? Does it help winning ganes *lol

Regards,
Markus

Puckett was a flashy road hustler best known for his one-pocket game.
He sometimes played out of Fast Freddy's in the Fort Worth, Texas area.

I saw Puckett play in the 1980 World 14.1 Championships in NYC, and he didn't have too much left in the tank. As you say, he still played decent, but was certainly no match for the straight pool stars of that period (Sigel, Hopkins, Varner, Rempe, Martin, West, and others).

He was an incredibly colorful and charismatic player. I, too, wonder what that huge domed hat is called.
