just wondering what you other posters think about the "Tip Of The Day" that is usually shown at some point in time during an ESPN Billiards Show?

is it just me, or does it seem like 95% of the time this tip is pretty much useless? or just plain ridiculous? i have seen Dawn Hopkins, Allen Hopkins, Ewa Laurance, Mark Wilson, Bob Byrne, Aileen Pippen ("sigh"), Gerda Hofstatter, Randy Goettlicher and his buddy, and others handle these chores before.

seems like i recall one tip was a masse rail first jump shot. that was certainly a useful tip...........

I would agree, they could do a better job with their time.

I don't want to incriminate, but I remember a recent one where the instructor was showing how not to shoot a shot, where he "steered" the cue ball to pocket a ball.

He then showed the correct way, by shooting the cue ball without steering it, while looking straight into the camera as he shot, saying "If you learn to shoot like this, we'll see you on the next tour!" It was so bad, it was laughable.

Yo Gregg, you gotta see that instructional clip again! In this clip, the instructor was trying to show how a beginner, an amateur and a professional would use ball-in-hand to get the CB from one end of the table to the other, using CB speed and direction. The punch line then was: "If you learn to shoot like this, we'll see you on the next tour!" :)

Right, how about some tangible tips? Like basics how to draw, keeping your cue level, hit the cue ball low, and follow through? How about beginners who jack up their cue while shooting off the rail? Bridges? Anything has to be better than what they come up with.

I think they are pretty good but they are more geared to the beginner. For intermediate and advanced players you would need more than a minute to give a useful tip.

I think it would be great if a weekly show was produced that was like "playing lessons from the pros" on the golf channel. There are a lot of characters in the pool world so it could be very entertaining.
