I was asked what I thought the value of this cue was, and I didn't have an answer. Thought I'd try this forum to see what people think. I'm a newbie, please be gentle.

It's a basic player's cue, ebony butt sleeve, four points with three veneers, it's signed Mike Johnson 12-7-96 between the points.

Two shafts, one chalked, one not. The unchalked shaft has a slight roll.
I don't see any marks on the butt.

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

I've never seen one marked with his actual name. They are almost always signed "Jensen". I would guess $5 to $7 hundred.

Thank-you for your comments. I just got this cue. I was told it was played once with one shaft then put away. The shafts seem like they haven't been played, they're slightly rough and need to be burnished. I'm trying to decide if I should play with it for awhile or just put it up for sale or trade. I'm leaning towards playing it. Any thoughts??

Other info: Butt weighs approx. 15.3 oz, chalked shaft 3.7 oz, unchalked shaft 4.1 oz. Both tips measure 12.85 mm. Micarta ferrules?? Anyway, I'll put this is the F/S forum when I decide on a price. PM me if your interested.

I really expected to get more opinions. The Blue Book of cues says a level 3 Jensen @ 98% has a minimum value of $900. It appears that this cue is rare due to the actual Mike Johnson signature. Any Comments?

You cant go by the Blue Book of cues. Only way to know is to put it up for sale and see what happens.

6-7 seems like the normal price for an older jensen of this design. u might get more if u happen to find the right person tho. i do not think that the full signature adds any value to the cue since he normally signs his cues anyway. plus u can still get him to do it on any existing cue if u just send it to him.

Jensen Cue

I agree the sale price would be $600-$700, but for that price I would keep it just because I like Jensen cues.

It looks like a nice cue.

Thanks again for your comments.

I agree that the only true way to determine value is to see what the market will bear. I just didn't know what's a realistic asking price range would be.

I also agree that if it's in the $600-$700 range I've got to seriously consider keeping it as a player.
