Even Broken A Cue?

I never get to the point where I would abuse my equipment. I would get really pissed at being so off-game that I would shoot ten times harder than what I usually shoot. Once I start doing that, I put my personal cue aside and grab a house cue just in case I pull an Earl, but I have never yet tried abusing my equipment, even with a house cue in hand. The most I have done was curse and immitate I was going to bite my cue than I realize, "Hey sit down, chill out, breath and remember the basics." I am a firm believer in pool etiquette, and abusing your equipment, placing chalk face down, chalking over the table, or sitting on the table is a sign of bad sportsmanship. Just bite and grit and critique why you miss the shot. As I always say....

Happy Shooting! :)

You can't ever expect anybody to take you seriously if you don't respect your equipment.

Further any player that has ever thrown a temper tantrum and thrown, smashed or otherwise broken a cue has been unceremoniously kicked off my team.

Not only does it show a lack of respect for the game and your opponents but everybody around you.

Not to mention it can be dangerous... though pool is not intended to be a contact sport lol. A guy broke a cue at league 1 night and a piece of the shaft went by a lady's head and it was sharp as well... if it had struck her in the eye things would not have been good. I agree it is not called for.

I snapped my Mali over my knee after a particularly lazy shot about a year ago. It was more about life/work stress than pool, but the cue paid. The butt was fine and Mueller's made me a great 30" replacement. They also fixed the old shaft which I didn't think would be feasable the way it shattered at the shaft joint.

I still feel like an ass when I think about it or folks remind me about it. (How's your "Break" Cue?)

Never broke one. But I did see my Dad throw a golf club once. Hit my Mom. He moved out.

Hey, to add to the thread, I'd be iinteresting to see who's had the single most expensive burst of cue anger. Something like "I dogged the 9, slammed my $30,000 Balabushka against the wooden rail, shattered the shaft, bent the pin, and threw the cue through the huge window front."

That would get the Oscar I imagine.

Ever Broken a Cue

I played a guy 25 years ago for 5.00 a game. He thought he was stealing and when I won 13 games in a row he took his fancey Palmer and shattered it accross the rail. He didn't hit a another pool ball for 2 years. It was one of the best beatings I have ever had.

I tell my APA team that you just don't want to win but you want to destroy your opponent. This way they will remember the beating you gave them the next time you play them. What a wonderful game this is!

Snapped a 700$ Dale perry on my table at home cause the wife wouldnt stop nagging. I was shooting at the time and she wouldnt shut up and i lost it and slammed the shaft on the table. the funny thing is the shaft is the only thing that DIDNT shatter. The butt snapped into 5 or so peices, and the shaft only had a dent. Oh well, if i hadnt have done that i wouldnt have gotten the beauty of a schon ive got now,

Besides with the crap DP pulled with his cues that thing wouldnt be worth anything today.

You are right not to worry, you can replace the old cue for probably $150. Boy those prices dropped.

I've never thrown or broken a cue....won't say it couldn't happen though - I have broken a couple of aluminum bats, and may have a distance record for putter throwing...lol I like to think that's all behind me.

There must be some comfort in knowing you're a not so good player...never purposely broke a cue. Broke one by accident, tho...laid the cue in a soft case behind the car seat...then, like an idiot, scooted the seat to my usual far back position. I cried when I heard the snap. Only hard cases since then.

I am far from an angel, but I'd find it hard to be consistent if I had to keep repurchasing equipment. How do I become better or more consistent if I break my playing cue?

That being said, I have broken a few cues, but only once intentionally. On the break, I've broken a J&J, a cuetec, and a few house cues. Its just the result of how I used to break.

The intentional break of a cue was a few years back, I had a knife pulled on me while I was playing. 4" knife vs a 58" cue. I still wish I had that cue today.

I have never slammed my cue or shaft like that in anger. The most I have done is drop it on its bumper from about a foot in the air. Once in a while with a little bit of force but never enough to hurt it. Can not afford a replacement :)
