ever ask a cuemaker to build just a butt?

i was just wondering if anyone had ever gotten a cuemaker to build just a butt for them. I have a bunch of schon shafts i really like, but the butt isnt quite what i want, i need something a little larger with maybe a leather wrap. I have the specs of what i want, just wondering if cuemakers would do that, or if they would be insulted or only want to sell you a full stick, etc. I talked to evan at schon about building me one but he said he didnt build them like what i wanted. Most cue butts start at .85in at the joint then end up at about 1.26, 1.27 at the bottom. I want something that starts at .85 tapering out with the last 8 inches (where my hand will be) about 1.327, 1.328......slowly ending around the 1.34 mark. And id want the weight to be not much more than 15oz if possible.

Sure!

A good custom cue maker can do anything you want. You can get just a butt made to fit your shaft. Or a butt made and have several shafts modified so they all fit that butt. Or have a new joint installed in an off-the-shelf cue. Or just have a tip replaced.

And if you have a butt made, it can be anything you want. Colors, your name on it, designs, even artwork/pictures with some cue makers.

I am curious why you would want your cue to start out at .850" instead of .840 since your Schon shafts are .840"? Are you wanting the joint to be stainless steel or regular phenolic?

Why did this get moved to the Ask the Cuemaker section? The question was clearly for players/buyers, not for cuemakers.

If he'd wanted to ask a(nother) cuemaker the question, I'm sure he'd have posted as such.

well i measured the joint of my schon and it was .85, and someone told me that most butts started at .85 so i figured that was what i needed if i wanted my schon shafts to fit it.......am i wrong?

Maybe it would depend on when your Schon was made, Any Schon I have ever worked on was .836

hey mike i was fixing up an email to send you, this was one of the things i was going to ask you in it as well. Ive given up on the idea of making my schon bigger, i want you to do some refinish on it and extend the wrap by a couple inches. I know you said it would be about a month b4 you were ready for new work so im doing some research on my own in the meantime.
