The only problem I find with playing real good position is that my "hard" shot percentage goes down a little bit. When I am playing well, I never have a hard shot unless my opponent leaves it for me or if its after the break. I find myself playing for days, sometimes weeks without ever really having anything difficult to do. This actually hurts my game a little so in order to practice, I leave myself long, intentionally let the rock go, and actually play a little careless just to give my self some complicated outs to do.

The only problem with this is that its more fun sometimes and I feel like doing it in competition. (I lose sometimes because of it..) :) It really does get boring playing high level rotation....

This is one of the reasons why I try to stick to gambling at one pocket as I get bored real fast playing 9 ball... I know its a problem everyone wishes they had, but its not that hard to play well in rotation games.. Just learn and understand the patterns, and the most proficient ways to run the balls and the rest comes easy.

Or perhaps brain-dead not to recognize simple logic. You actually disagree with yourself here (being in line is good enough, and then it isn't)!!

Please re-read the comments on this thread. Try to find the connections between them. Consider that some of us may actually be correct occasionally. We try to respond thoughtfully and tactfully to other posts. The idea here is to share ideas, not to prove you know more than someone you may disagree with.

You are telling me the difference between area position and pin point is feets of distance. I'm trying to tell you that never happens. When you play on fast cloth, tight pockets, it's really hard to manipulate area properly unless you are extremely mechanically gifted...

I did re-read. I think you should really consider how elementary your questions are. Please don't get offended but...do you really expect us to answer those questions? Wouldn't you think being off the rail is a standard for all players?

If you are in line----you won't end up with a 7 footer.

If you are out of line-----your best option is to sometimes stop the rock instead of trying to get pinpoint position.

That was what I meant.

The bus is here Donny hurry up!

Do you play?

Do you actually play pool, or are you just chronically disagreeable?
Don't quite get the "bus" line, but I'm sure it's a very clever insult.
Enough time wasted trying to get you to come down to earth.

Is it that hard to figure out?

I agree that precise position is ideal, I'm just saying no one can achieve that repeatably. If I could place the cue ball on every shot, I'm sure I'd pick a spot that was the proper blend of angle and distance, at least based on my knowledge (someone else's spot may be different).

That's why shot selection, speed control, and picking the correct route TO that precise position is so important. Sometimes being a just a few inches away from your ideal position in the wrong direction can be catastrophic, but being a few feet away in the right direction is perfectly acceptable. I may be aware of where that perfect spot is, but I'm more aware and focused on getting there in the correct manner.
