Exotic wood dust

Right now, the work I do consists mostly of repairs with the occasional new shaft and set of joint protectors. I don't create lots of dust, but when I work with exotics I wear a respirator and use my shop vac strapped to my toolpost as a dust collector. I hadn't thought of it before, but when you guys work large volumes of exotic woods and your dust collectors get full, What do you do with the dust?

I've heard of some cue makers selling it as mulch to local farmers...you know for fertilizer and compost and the like....not sure if that is true though.

I used to spread it on the garden, but found it so dry that it didn't help much. Now I just burn it.

wood dust

I sometimes get cues to restore to original state, and sometimes, serious damge was done to them.

That's when I use very fine dust of the same specie to mix with epoxy glue to fill dints (serious dints) or chips.

That's why I always keep a little dust of most species used like ebony, tulipwood, kingwood, rosewoods, cocobolo...etc.

After having fixed the damaged parts like that, I spray the cue again and you don't see anything.

But I only keep not even an ounce of each. The rest goes in the bin.

hi slip, good question.

I have a differant approach to dust. I always wear a mask, and have a good dust collector system. I consider "ALL" woods to be not healthy.

Never put your dust in a garden, for some have to much acid, and some have been soaked in chemicals, un-known or known to us..."BAD FOR GARDEN FOOD AND OUR HEALTH"........Kills the h*ll out of garden bugs.

Out here in the "sticks" we take ours to our burn pit. If your in the city, garbage bags [doubled] works fine.
