Extension

So I’m looking to add a butt extension to my cue, however the quick release ones, Prather, Predator, etc will not work with my cue. There is no way to have one fitted for my cue without adding an ounce or more to it and that’s personally to much for my comfort. I know that Seo Seoa uses one that is similar to this one. I was wondering if anyone uses something similar and can suggest any brands being better than others? I shoot on 9ft tables a lot and the butt extension would be better over the rake at times.

Thank you for any help

How would so much weight be added? There is an extension you can buy from jjcue which comes with three different bumpers. If none fits, a cuemaker can add a phenolic threat to your butt to match, if needed. They weigh almost nothing. The extension from flowers has the same thread. The other one also often sells at big events.

My current weight bolt is hollow and made of aluminum it’s strictly there to hold the delrin butt cap on so by getting a weight bolt to hold an extension we looked on Prather and their replacement bolt is 1.5oz which means adding it will adjust my cue weight from 19.2 to 20.7 and if a little material is removed roughly end weight would be 20.5 which is a lot more than I would like.

I use a push on for my snooker cues. Similar but not the same as this one.
It's actually mental that that one costs $50+... Can find the exact same thing for $10 or less here. I mean, literally identical, I think maybe from the exact same factory that these are mass produced in?

I rarely need an extension for pool on a 9ft table. But then I am competent enough with both hands. I use a screw on for some shots on the 10ft. If you only need it now and then, I would say a push-on can actually be much quicker or more convenient than some screw-ons. But if you are looking to permanently have an extension attached then the push-on probably isn't for you.

Is it possible to consult a cue maker and have one made? Can be relatively inexpensive (depending on a few factors of course), and you get exactly what you need. $50 was how much I had one made for here (to Mezz M6 thread). Finding the relevant butt cap with thread for accepting an extension for the cue I had was a nuisance here.

interesting, never saw a buttcap screwed into a weightbolt, which is then screwed into the butt. Maybe, like said before, consulting a cuemaker would be one option

The buttcap I had made is hollow, the connecting bolts outer thread is the 3/8x16 (I think), the inside thread is Mezz M6. The small weight bolt is installed farther up.

Maybe my old thread can be helpful, maybe not.

Maybe you could post in the cuemaker section of the forum? Probably be much more helpful than us.

If you add to your cue I don’t see how you won’t add an ounce or 2 to it. My 8” extension is 2-3oz and it’s hard to tell it’s there when holding the butt. It’s only noticeable when not in use. If you want a full time, pretty sure you are better off with a mid one.

Quite a few bumpers screw into the weight bolts. I think you are making this out into something that really isn't if you were to look around for a solution. I needed a bumper to attach an extension to for my Schons. Rick Roper makes them and they don't add 1 1/2 oz. In fact it added something like 2/10 of an oz over the standard bumper and it was simple to modify the weight bolt to get right back to where I was before adding his extension bumper. Keep in mind you can get longer or shorter weight bolts that have the screw for the bumper, you also can get aluminum ones that weigh about .2 oz. They actually make plastic ones that weigh even less, or you can just cut back normal weight bolts in 1/10 oz increments. Rick Roper can also make you an extension and bumper for most any cue made and now is making them for quick release.

Presuming one uses the extension only as needed, the additional weight is a non issue, imo.

The bigger issue is the change in playability when you use a 50cm bridge and grab the cue at the farthest opposite end.

That 10% additional weight will be unnoticed, given the insanely different experience you'll have when you use is, vs when using regular setup.

I say go as cheap as possible. You won't need it often anyway.

Already tried it will not work with my cue.
How wide is the hole for the bumper and bolt? I retrofitted an old Predator butt for one of their extensions and the new endcap is lighter than the rubber one. I just needed a big ol tap to cut new threads (M16x1.5).

What cue do you have? I think there are a lot of good options out there, but I don't like that twist on one. It's heavy and cumbersome.

The Drill Instructor makes a Bazooka extension that is a plastic variation of the old Hager version. It's pretty good, but a little long. Simple to use.

FWIW, I designed and 3D printed an adapter for all my cues to allow the use of Predator extensions. I did a few for my friends as well [AE, Viking, Mali, Cuetec]. It basically adds onto the bumper [or replaces the butt cap for cuetec] and then you can use any quick release extension.

The concern isn't adding the weight of the extension the concern is my current weight bolt is pretty much aluminum and hollow so it weighs next to nothing. If I remove that and put in a 2" weight bolt for the extension to attach to it will add 1.5oz to my cue shooting without the extension just because of the difference in the weight of the bolts.

So the Prather R6 extension bumper kit will work, but 2 1/2 inch one will work for my cue but it will add 1.5oz to my cue weight just by changing the bolt. So if I could find that bolt that is hollow aluminum has little to no additional weight that would be ideal

So I was reading this thread. I removed the bumper on one of my cues to weigh it (.2 oz or 8 grams) It replaces

the bumper and weight bolt
