Extra top for Gold Crown 4?

I have 141 currently and they are a tick under 4.5" and you gotta hit them good. They will rattle when you hammer them down the rail if you dont hit them clean.

Wish I could post a video lol. Your down the rail sounds really similar to what occurs on my table.

Brushing the rail with speed just leaves them for the next guy lol.

Yes but 141° at 4.125" will rattle a ball with pace hit down the rail that hits the pocket clean. 141° at 4.125" is VERY different than 141° at 4.5".

Good question. I can only speak to 4.125" as that is the pocket size on my table. Perhaps a mechanic can chime in.
I'm more in favor of sticking with the same angles for most tables: 141 x 12 degrees. If you don't like the way a pocket plays at 4.125", don't get 4.125" pockets. If you start changing angles, I feel that you are changing too many variables.

One thing that I will change is the durometer of the facings. If you want a tougher playing pocket, go with a softer facing. For easier, go harder.

I'm gonna leave it to MG. I know things can be done to miter angles and down angles and such, but I've got no reason to doubt why he does what he does.

I honestly appreciate the input and that's why I love this site. So many people with different experiences can give their input, and there are many ideas to draw from and help with decision making.

If it plays tough, that's the goal. I'll be the first to say that's why this one isn't the main top, lol. And I'll be the first in line to "you're right" if you are as well.

I wish I had measured the miter angles on the 4" Blue Label in town. I know the shelf on that table makes it more difficult, but I've never actually seen what Diamond does angle wise on a factory 4.125" table.

I'm sure if you call them they will tell you. I recall my mechanic (who does lots of installs for the Diamond distributor here in SoCal) telling me Diamond cuts custom ordered 4.125" pockets at 139° or 140°. I'll ask him.

My mechanic said Diamond is cutting the tight pocket black labels to 139°. He is also of the opinion the pockets will rattle balls hit down the rail at 4.125"/141°.

I wonder if the blue labels are the same? Blue label is the newest isn't it?

I was told the blue lables were the newest and came out around 2010? I haven't been able to find any real references to black lable
I've seen people reference them on the forum but I can't find it via a search. Perhaps call Diamond to inquire?

I've read (and that's subject to incorrect remembering, lol) that the Black Label badging could be put on at a customers request, but was just a different color Red Label. Again, I'm drawing that from reading it on here at some point.

Could be. If so a new black label would more than likely just be a blue label with a black label on it.

I just got my 10x5 rails back from Mark Gregory. Opened the box tonight. Man, that guy does amazing work! I got 4.5” corners and he tightened the side pockets also on my ten foot 70 year old Brunswick Centennial. Refinished the rosewood too. Can’t wait to get this table back together!
