Eyesight and the 20/20/20 rule

I recently read about this for those who sit too long at a computer screen, but I'm sure it applies to pool as well. For every 20 minutes you're looking at something up close, look at least 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. It supposedly keeps your eyes from losing the ability to refocus.

This advice is similar to that on a DVD I saw years ago about how to restore bad eyesight. They say that tribes in Africa have very sharp eyesight, mainly because they're constantly focusing on objects across the plains.

In the past I've gone for many hours looking only as far as the end of the pool table. I'm going to try to incorporate this technique from now on.

after getting a computer a few years ago my eyesight became much worse. after looking at the screen for a few hours, when i go to the pool room it takes 10 or 15 mins. for my eyes to refocus and my vision is at least 10 or 15% worse than it was pre-computer, but your right focusing on something further away seems to help.
ps: the pockets are still in the same place they were when i started playing.

In Order To Play Pool, You Will Have To Be Able To See Sharply The Entire Length Of The Pool Table.

I do that and your 10000000000% right, infact I read a bok cover to cover on a 18 hour flight once and didnt look up, I dont know how long it was 4 or 5 hours at least and my eyes couldnt focus on far away objects again, when I got home a month later I needed to go up a .25 diapoter in strength on my contacts. Ever since then I never read books, net anything for more than 10 minutes with out giving my eyes a rest.

Fatboy, fortunately I think if you do a lot of distant looking you can restore your eyesight. At least that's what the DVD said. A nearly blind guy trained himself to see with this and a few other techniques.

You have only to look quickly at any object ball, when playing pool. THE CUE BALL HAS ALREADY LOCKED ON THE TARGET.

Hal, I'm not describing aiming in this thread. I'm just referring to maintaining good eyesight by not playing for hours without giving the eyes a break every 20 minutes.
Peace, my friend.
