Fancy Mottey for $840????

Thats a scam... More and more keep popping up on ebay. Hackers steal peoples identities via the net and hack their paypal account too. It makes me leary about buying anything from there. I bought a few cues from ebay and Im still waiting for them to arrive??? hmmm maybe I got ripped... All I can say is contact the seller and ask detailed questions.
But the Mottey is a for sure SCAM!!! No doubt.

I've done a bit of business on Ebay, but I'll tell you...I'm shying away from it now for this very reason. The scammers are getting good at what they do and Ebay seems to have a little trouble staying on top of it. I've seen more of these scams pop up just lately than I'm comfortable with.

G,
I'll tell you the problem and I almost bit. They send e-mails that are very convincing using ebay and paypal logos about accounts, payment methods,
passwords, and many other things.. and once you answer.. bang your toast.

Yep..I've gotten a few of those. Ebay is going to have to figure a way to defeat that before it ruins their business.

Hi THE MOTTEY CUE IS FOR SALE ON CUEAUCTIONS.COM AND I AM THE OWNER AND SELLER OF THIS CUE.THE PHOTOS WERE HIJACKED FROM SCOTTS SITE .SO HOPEFULLY EBAY WILL TAKE CARE OF IT BUT IF NOT ONE SUGGESTION IS TO BID IT UP TO 50,000 AND HAVE SOME FUN WITH THESE SCAMMERS. I ALSO DONT TRUST EBAY ANYMORE AND DEAL ONLY WITH KNOWN SELLERS LIKE JOE! SEE YA IN A FEW WEEKS IN PHILLY

Can they scam you with paypal.........meaning can they do a fake auction like this and accept paypal and get your money? or would you be able to dispute it and get it back from paypal when you didnt get your cue in the mail?

Here's another scam...

Ebay Cog Scam

There's a third cue off of Scotts site I saw somewhere on FleaBay this afternoon but I can't it now. Personally I'm done with Ebay. I've had all good experiences but I'm quitting while I'm ahead. Half my buys were from people off this forum and the others were from recommended sellers. Is this wide spread throughout ebay? Is somone trying to scam my dear old mom with fake Longinburger basket auctions? keep watchin out for each other.
Andy

Problem Isn't Ebay.....

I KNEW I saw the cue somewhere, but I just couldn't remember where. Ebay has been a really great resource for collectibles, including cues. Many people try to sell items locally and when that doesn't work, ebay is the answer. The problem is that there will always be people who feel the need to cheat the system. The "fake" ebay auctions look so authentic, it's hard to differentiate them from real auctions. Like anything else, if it's too good to be true.......

It's definitely nice that forums like this can help protect people from getting scammed out of hard earned money. I'm sure Ebay will shut that auction down and hopefully determine who ran the auction. I for one would like the name, address, and phone number of someone screwed up enough to heist pictures and descriptions, steal a user ID with all (+) feedback, set up a fake address for receiving payments and attempt to get away with it. Incredible!!!

READ ALL OF THE THREADS HERE,THE CUE IS MINE ON SCOTTS SITE.NEVER SEND MONEY ORDERS OR CASHIERS CHECKS OR WIRE TRANSFERS.I USE PAYPAL BUT EVEN THATS NOT SAFE AS A SELLER NOW WITH CHARGE BACKS. BASICALLY,EBAY IS DEAD AND THEY WONT DO A DAM THING IF YOU GET ROBBED SO DONT FALL INTO THAT TRAP. I USE TO THINK DEALING WITH DEALERS WAS CRAZY WHEN U COULD BUY CHEAP ON EBAY BUT THATS ALL RUINED NOW.I FEEL SORRY FOR ALL THE NEWCOMMERS TO EBAY WHO DONT KNOW HOW BAD IT IS. LOL

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to detect the fraudulent ones from the real ones. In this case, the BIN price of the cue was a good clue. It was just too cheap for that cue. It's just too risky now to use Ebay until they clean this problem up. If the crook was a little smarter, they would have listed the cue differently. However, if they get a BIN taker before Ebay shuts the auction down, someone will just get taken...that's all. It happens every day. To me, it's just too damned much trouble to try to investigate an auction before you bid on it, and there's no guarantee that you'll detect a fraudulent one anyway. I'd rather just buy cues from known, dependable online cue dealers. There's plenty of them. I passed up what looked like a good deal on a Scruggs on Ebay a couple of weeks ago because I just didn't trust it...I went to IndyQ and bought one from Roy instead. I spent a little more money, but I certainly don't regret it. There was nothing in the auction that led me to believe it was fraudulent, I just didn't have a good feeling about it. I've learned to trust my instincts.

There is a Cognosceniti on eBay right now that was hacked off of Cueauctions.com it is at $447.00 or something like that right now. If you look at the sellers item history they sell and buy doll parts!!

More reasons why cue dealers and cuemakers are the way to go.

Different Scam

Another way they've found to scam from ebay is "second chance" offers. I bid on a Tascarella about 3 weeks ago and am still getting official looking (ebay logo and wording) emails from people offering me a second chance to buy that cue or "one just like it". Ebay has been good about catching these emails (not sure how they know) and advising me to ignore them (which I'd already done).

As someone above said, there's always a few to mess up a good thing.

This makes Scot's site really reliable. At least you can be sure of the cue and whatever is said on the Auctions Section. I wouldn't mind availing of the escrow service as well.

Of course there are others here who maintain top notch sites as well. ;)

If you see it report it

I reported these auctions as soon as I saw them yesterday because I too had seen them on cueauctions and looked at the other items which showed doll parts, that with the low BIN price stacked up pretty hard against it being real. And now they're off the site and someone has found out they got their account hijacked. I also reported that this has been an ongoing problem in the cues section. They're off the site now. I've bought expensive cues off of EBay before, and always was a bit nervous about sending my money without the cue in my hands, but thankfully it's worked out so far. Be vigilant.

Who is doing this crap?? Is any one out there have a way of finding out who is running these bogus auctions???

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7140004538

THERE IS NO WAY OF STOPPING THIS.IF PEOPLE ARE DUM ENOUGH TO RESPOND TO THOSE PHONEY EMAILS REQUESTING THERE ID AND PASSWORDS THEN THIS IS WHAT HAPPENS.LIKE I SAID,BID THESE ITEMS UP TO A MILLION DOLLARS,EBAY DOES NOTHING TO U BECAUSE THEY KNOW ITS A SCAM AND THEN ONCE IT GETS CRAZY IF SOMEONE BIDS A MILLION 2 FOR MY MOTTEY THEN OH WELL.
