You know, to me, a cue really doesn't "ring my bell" if all it has going for it is some pretty wood. Don't get me wrong, I love all different kinds of woods, with beautiful patterns and all. I just don't get the fascination some people seem to get from this in a cue. Sure it is pretty wood, but it doesn't show any art or skill in building the cue, except perhaps picking out the wood. Just my opinion.
I really love the exotics in spliced cues, or in inlay work and rings. But, forget just saying a cue is so awesome or beautiful because it has a fancy cocobolo handle and birds eye maple forearm.
Just a thought.

Funny, I am the exact opposite. I like rather plain cues (wrt inlays, rings, etc) with nicely figured woods. My latest cue, a sneaky made by Paul Drexler from a Mark Bear blank is a classic example .... the zebra wood is beautiful

A Pool Cue doesn't have to be beautiful, to be a good playing Cue.

With that said, I would hope that most Cue Makers have the playability ahead of the beauty. (we all know that a different tip will make it a different cue, sometimes.)

I feel exactly the same way.

Eh, I don't know, every time I look at this cue, my shorts feel a bit tight. I look at some of the other pointed, inlayed ones, but the wood grain and color and the wrap, I can't think of anything better. She will be mine, oh yes, she will be...
