Fargo Rate Kinematics (Question)

I should start by saying this question is largely theoretical and is only for the extremely nerdy at heart.

Has anyone studied the kinematics of Fargo points? What do I mean? Let me explain.

My Fargo is around 550 and I have almost 1000 robustness. I mostly play league at my local hall/pub. And I less often play tournaments at a different pool hall. The two places are very different (different level of players, different tables, tournament vs. league). I tend to consistently gain Fargo when playing in my home pool hall, but tend to lose Fargo when I play at the second place. It is almost as though I am stealing fargo points from people in my home bar and passing them to the players of the other bar. I understand that this is not a one to one ratio of points, but relative to some robustness weighting, everytime two people play a match that does not meet Fargo expectation, one person should net positive and the other negative.

I track my level of play vs. Fargo expectation in my league and after every tournament. I believe the difference in play is mostly due to condition changes and comfort level differences (not some significant Fargo leveling difference), but it did get me thinking about Fargo point dynamics between different islands. I would say less than 10% of my local league players tend to branch out to other areas, so there is some level of isolation in my local bar. Has anyone studied Fargorate islands and Fargo point movement between islands when intermixed? What is the effect of provisional rating choices on the average rating of an island? I want to play with this myself with simulation, but I thought I would ask if anyone had done it yet.

P.S. Is the fargorate API documented and open? It would be interesting to do some datamining.

Mike Page has discussed some of this in his videos on YouTube. There is also some info in the FR FAQ.

"Provisional" ratings are not used in the actual FargoRate calculations. Only games that have actually been played are counted. The provisional ratings only come into play when the local TD determines spots.

It is possible that you have an island at the bar. Fortunately they have you as a bridge. 👍 🌉
