FargoRate #1000 and #10000

From the FargoRate top 100 in the world list, we can see that:
#1 = 847
#10 = 831
#100 = 782

What would be the rating of the 1000th player? Or 10000th?

Also, how many players would you estimate are out there that are in the top 100, 1000 or 10000 skill wise, but aren't in the FargoRate system due to not playing in tournaments enough that use FR?
 
Well, @mikepage can probably tell us the exact answer, but I’ll take a semi-educated guess:

It’s known to be a logarithmic scale, every 100 pts doubles the skill level, and there are 299,121 players in the system. There’s a 65 pt spread between #1 and #100 for the Top 100 list, which is men only. I’m going to estimate that there are about 10X the number of players in each 100 pt spread, so let’s go down to a FR of 682 for #1,000, down to a FR of 582 for #10,000, down to a FR of 482 for #100,000, and a long tail below that to get to the number of men in the system (guessing 85-90% of the total).

As far as your second question, no way to know for sure, but I would guess there are around 100 more great players (782FR+) out there who aren’t in the system, around 1,000 more good players (682FR+) out there not in the system, and at least 100,000 or more decent to bad players, who play regularly, not in the system.

Mike Page has posted plots of the distribution. You can probably find it with a search on his ID.

I would guess 720 for top 1000.....680 top 5000...601 top 10,000+...

750+. - pro
680-749. - Road Player
650-679 -A
600-649 -B
500-599 -C
<499 - Recreational

Yes, I agree. I feel my rating should be approaching 500. I have played in open league and tournaments against the best in the house, as a sort of newb. That has taken it's toll on my record so far.

That's ok, if that is what you want. I wouldn't mind a having a fr, so I might compete when I choose. I'm approaching 70yo, so I have limitations.

i think you can still compete without a fargo rating
can anyone confirm or say its not so for sure?
tom its not like you are likely to snap off a major tournament with a fargo of 370
no offense intended
so i dont think if you played in a tournament players would think you were sandbagging

Maybe, maybe not. I do think I am better than a 370 rating though. Personally, I'd like to know how I rate after 200 games. I think about 500.

if you go to your pool room hopefully there are players there with fargo ratings
play them some cheap sets and tell them not to take it easy on you
based on their fargo and how you do
you will get a feel for where you stand

Its a good system, especially once robustness is 400+ games. There is a LOT of $$ to be won playing FR events. I'd venture to say that more people are playing tournament pool now than maybe ever. You can go anywhere in the US and find a FR event. Some of the $1000entry events are paying out really good $$. People play because they feel they have a shot, not just be dead$$ in some open event.

All true but the players I’m talking about go anywhere and find games too but they like staying under the radar

Most tournaments require a minimum number of Fargo games in order to be allowed to play.
