HA....not on your life! I have enough to handle within the confines of my own home. You can only be "pulp" so much of the time. Maybe one day if I can get up off the ground, dust myself off, and put some clean clothes on...

You so disapoint. :( I was ready for you too, darn! ;)

I don't think I would...I just ain't in the mood. Only so much time in a day and that would be far too time consuming. This whole forum is, I should be elsewhere, like on the table. I'll answer your other pool related "looks obsession" post though, just give me time.

I guess the ultimate question I was trying to have answered is to what degree does the looks of the player, the physical looks, lead one to say, "Hey, that chick is my favorite player. I don't care how good she is on the table, I don't care if she is nice, polite, or accessible, and I don't care what she is ranked. She is my favorite because she is hot. Her looks out weigh ANY other criteria. When I root for someone I base it on looks first"?
If some one bases the decision solely on looks, then I think that actually answers your question for you.
I enjoy watching a good player shoot period. It’s like a free lesson in a way. I can't tell you to what degree the looks of a player influence that. I would love to say (all high and mighty like) that looks don't matter to me and the skill of a player is what is really important, but I think I would be lying to some degree. But I know if I had to choose between watching two average skilled "Hot" girls play pool or two average looking Pro's play pool, then I would watch the pro's play every time.

I agree with you, Wild Eight, to a point. I guess it is kinda difficult to explain really. The WPBA has a dress code. They all must look nice and professional, and they all do, IMO. Yes, all these girls can play; yes, all of these girls are well dressed and groomed for tourneys (and as far as I know what ever other things they partake in during their daily lives.) I guess the ultimate question I was trying to have answered is to what degree does the looks of the player, the physical looks, lead one to say, "Hey, that chick is my favorite player. I don't care how good she is on the table, I don't care if she is nice, polite, or accessible, and I don't care what she is ranked. She is my favorite because she is hot. I really don't know what you keep searching for in this. I think your poll has given you that answer and the numbers, just turn it into a percentage. The results show that "mad skills" come out on top by far, but are you still asking yourself if they're just all lying scum? What do you want to know?

Let's forget about pool and take one name from tennis...Anna Kournikova. You could definitely say that she was the favorite of tennis fans and non tennis fans because she is HOT and her looks out weight ANY other criteria.
I think people rooted for her so they could see her not get knocked out of the brackets in order to see more of her as the tournament progressed. She had more hits on her internet site and related links than ANY other female sports star out there when she was playing. She never won, she wasn't ranked highly, she was an underachiever, and she was somewhat of a bitch at times, but SO WHAT? She packed the stands; more revenue was brought in as a result of her presence in a tournament; there were higher TV ratings when she was shown in a match; and ALL of the women benefitted from greater exposure to achieve name recognition, endorsements, and additional benefits as a result of their "excellent play" that might have gone unnoticed.

The same thing has occured throughout the years in golf with Laura Baugh, Jan Stephenson, and today with Natalie Gulbis. They were HOT, HOT, HOT.
Fans came to see, especially male fans, but they also got to see other women that can play their butts off. It's not like any of these women were/are hacks either, they wouldn't be there if they didn't prove themselves and have the ability to qualify and maintain their spots on tour.

In pool, let's take one name that stands out. Jeannette Lee. Let's face it she's HOT. But she's also #3 in the world, which means she has damn near an even chance with #1 and #2 to win at any time. She dresses impeccably, sometimes provacatively (sexy) but she also focuses and plays with as much intensity and killer instinct as any woman ever has. She brings in a crowd and ups the ratings on TV or at a tournament. She was blasted early on by her own catty sniping sisterhood for being TOO sexy and too much of a self-promotor. Hey...TOUGH SHIT!! If you don't know how to promote yourself and be a business person to maximize earnings, nobody is going to do it for you. Many of the other women don't know how to do it and are just jealous, too bad.

I'll also be bold enough to throw in another name...Jennifer Barretta. (Sorry to drag you into this Jen, but I'm all for you). Now LS77, I threw out these names to you in an earlier post and you totally wimped out and said that you didn't know them, well...you know OF them and you've formed some concrete opinions, I'm sure. But you didn't want to touch it with a ten foot pole. Jennifer is getting coverage everywhere, yet, like Kournikova has yet to win. Is that bad? Is it her fault that she was not only blessed with a great appearance but to also have gone into the gym and worked her tail off to improve even more? The answer is a resounding "F*#k NO!!" She's drawing attention to the sport, something that needs to be done any way that it can.
Will it be like the PGA Tour or women's tennis where there are a lot of disgruntled, unrecognized pro's grumbling behind the scenes? I'm certain that it is happening and will happen. But, is it good or bad in the overall major scheme of things? I say good. What say you? And I don't want to hear one of your backpedaling crawfish statements again......

It's just a discussion Drivermaker, yes the poll says skills are first priority and looks are second. I actually felt as though we were done and I was replying back to another poster, was this wrong?

And there is the point exactly. Women in sports are looked at based on their looks as opposed to their talents or skill level. It is one of the reasons why women’s sports are not taken that seriously. If I remember correctly, the WNBA was looked at as a joke when it first came to be. I'm not sure why. Softball is no where near where pro baseball is. Women's motocross doesn't half of the exposure as the boys. And if a woman wants to play football, well that's a joke within itself. You've already laid your claim to the WPGA and your "dykes on spikes" perception. I am sure you are not the only one who feels that away. So what? You are entitled to your opinion. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. The purpose of this post was to actually see if there were a percentage of people who based their sponsorship on a player in women's sports, namely the WPBA, solely on looks and to generate a conversation around that. And guess what? It worked.

And thus, we have an answer as to why it could be that women in sports must appear HOT, HOT, HOT. But then ask yourself, when I go to a sports event or watch a sports event like baseball, football, basketball, why do I watch? And compare that answer to why you watch a women's sporting event. And no, Drivermaker, these are not questions asked solely for you to answer, but they are more rhetorical questions intended to bring about thought.

If you don't know how to promote yourself and be a business person to maximize earnings, nobody is going to do it for you. Many of the other women don't know how to do it and are just jealous, too bad.

Again, questions to bring about thought...not to change or belittle...guys do not have to promote themselves as sexy, hot, hunky, or whatever adjective you want to use, to sell themselves or to maximize their earnings; their skill and personality are enough. Maybe I am not thinking clearly, but I can not name one male sports figure that had to wear a Speedo on the cover of a magazine to gain exposure as a legitimate sports figure and to attract sponsors and fans alike. Why do women?

And make all the demanding statements you want, I refuse to bring someone into a conversation that I know nothing about. It certainly is not fair to that person.

And Wild Eight...agreed.

Are you a dues paying member of the NOW gang, a Martha Burk underling? Are you also one of these lame protestors that band together to besmirch Playboy or Penthouse because you feel that women are being victimized by these nasty, vulgar men? Are you a misanthrope? Why don't you just wake up already?

Ha! No, absolutely not. I'm just having a conversation. Why are you becoming so defensive? I am definitely not the spokesperson for any liberated woman's group. As a matter of fact I'm a bit upset that women burned their bras in the 60's, as now I am expected to have a job, LOL. But, what's done is done and women are liberated and "declared" equal, so should we not be treated that way?

I believe the articles in Playboy are entertaining, just as any man does...especially the jokes (darn good jokes :p ). Though, you won't see me posing in any said magazines, no matter how much the pay. As far as Penthouse goes, you gotta admit that is just fiction. You don't believe those stories do you?

I really don't care what any other woman does; to each their own. I do, however, think the topic is worth discussing. Why? The simple fact that sociology intrigues me, obviously it intrigues others too.

OKAY.

I say this.

Even those on tour, that may *get* more attention, toward their looks, rather than their game...well, they wouldn't be there if it weren't for their work--so really, regardless if people DO choose based on physical reasons, they are still picking a talented player, in my opinion--whether they like it or not! lol. I ))almost(( feel sorry for the ones that are getting that type of attention most, because their game is too good to be 2nd on the list of a fan. In my opinion, a true pool fan, is based 1st on skills alone. That's if you can make a seperation of game, life, and appearance.

I actually would find it quite a possible distraction to be looked at for the, really, wrong reasons.

The world is one big conspiracy!! (: haha.

But it doesn't really matter, because all the players I adore are not only kick-buttocks pool players, but they are all undoubtably beautiful as well.

I thought that I was the one putting YOU on the defensive. Wasn't that YOU that just answered all of my questions about being an old style woman at heart. (burp)

HUH...you bet your sweet bippy I believe them. What are YOU doing reading those to begin with? You know they're mostly written FOR men and every woman, wife and girfriend that they discuss in the stories is drop dead knock out beautiful with long legs, green eyes, and perfect 36D orbs. Doesn't the fact that they're all hot-hot-hot upset you instead of being normal everday women with imperfections? How DARE THEM do that!!

Yeah...I fell for it...I told you I was a dumb blonde! :p

Anyway, I'm well read, what can I say? Aristotle, Plato, Dante, T.S. Elliot, and the editors of Penthouse; makes the world go round. ;)

You must have missed the part about Women being LIBERATED and EQUAL...you boys earned the right to play with My Little Pony (the toy  ) and us girls can read what ever "educational" material we so desire.

Yeah, fiction is fiction...no need for getting upset.

I'm well read also, what can I say? Tevis, Capelle, McGoorty, Huber, McCumber, Capelle, Chin, Mosconi, Byrne, Guccione.

This subject is boring me already. Since you've read all of the above and are an activist on this subject that likes polls, here knock yourself out:

That should keep you busy for awhile. You can thank me later. In the meantime, I'm going to go watch a tape of "The Apprentice" from last night. Anna Kournikova was on playing tennis with the male candidates and she is soooo hot-hot-hot. I need another fix of her. Think you can go fetch me a beer...and on your way back can you put a little wiggle in your walk, and a little giggle in your talk? (Famous words of the Big Bopper) www.mamarocks.com/chantilly_lace.htm :D ;) :p

Well Drivermaker, seems you are very well versed in woman's lib. They need a man over there. I really don't see what Aristotle, Ploato, Dante, and Elliot have to do with woman's lib...but you seem to know the most about that with all your fancy links and stuff. :p

If you're to drunk to fetch your own beer then you don't need another. I ain't no Edith Bunker.

This one is really for the boys...but girls you can answer too. Do to several recent threads on various message boards, I have decided to ask this question. Please answer honestly. The poll votes are not public, so no one will know what you voted for. I understand that your answer can be a combination of all of the above, but please pick the one the has the most weight for you. You may go into detail via a response to this thread. If you pick other...what is the other criteria that cast your fav as your fav?

This poll will be open for 7 days.

Thanx for playing along.

FYI- my pick is personality...but I'm a girl, so does that really count?
Allison Fisher is by far and away the best when she's on. She's in a totally different league from the rest. Fortunately she also seems to have a pleasent personality. I wish she'd play more straight pool. Her position play, and smarts, are so keen that I could see her running in the 400s.

No, Rodd, I haven't but *pulls you up a chair*, I think it's gonna ROCK in the ratings... *passes the popcorn without taking eyes off of the show*
