For me it's a three-way tie:
Brown paper bag scraps
91% rubbing alcohol
Homemade shaper (7/8in. aluminum tubing with 120 wet-or-dry paper)
Every time I change a tip, I do a ME cleaning, followed by a shellac-base sealer, and a polishing with 1800,4000 and 8000 micro mesh.
After a night of play I wipe down the shaft with alcohol, lightly touch up the tip and polish the shaft with brown paper. My shafts stay clean and smooth, with no bluing, and require no waxes or treatments. In my case are a tip pik, a Willard shaper, brown paper, leather and some medical alcohol pads, but they are rarely used at the hall. I agree with Manwon about washing hands every hour or two. Also my current case, a Sterling Wave, allows me to insert shafts joint down so I'm not rubbing chalk into the tubes when a shaft comes in or out. As much as I like my Instroke, the JB-designed interior of the Wave is just outstanding.
