I played In-House there for two sessions...played APA 8-Ball tourny last weekend...crazy!...taking Johnny's advanced clinic this Sat, how about you?

I like The Pool Room best, too. CuesII is a good second.... Side Pokket bites...the people are nice, but the tables and facilities suck, Kennesaw Billiards is OK for action (haven't been there in a while, though, Sharkey's has sort of gone downhill in the past couple of years. It used to be OK...I don't know what's happened to them.

Someone told me in Atlanta weekend before last that they had opened a big, fancy room almost right across the street from Mr. Cues. It appearently is not a players room, but is really nice and has a ton of tables.

Anyone have any info on it?

Mike

I agree...recently moved to Marietta and play In-House out of Side Pockket...your right, could be a lot better!...its growing on me though...great group of people there...trying to put an 8-Ball Team together for next session at The Pool Room...

Mr. Cue II was pretty nice and had a snooker table and two billiard tables. I went to an Asian room not far away that had some real nice carom tables- I think they hosted a billiard event that was taped by caromtv here.

I used to play at a hall near Sandy Springs (upstairs in a little mall) that was ok... too expensive though.

Is there still a pool hall in Marietta near a gym? I think they had GC IV's and it looked nice but it was also expensive. I used to work out next door and peak in but never saw any good players.

The Brass Rail in Athens is pretty nice. I think Murphy may have sold it but a lot of pros (mostly ladies) run around here for a country town. I remember it cost 6.42 an hour because they used to charge tax on the pool time, though!

I'm from southern middle TN and just about everyone here is into Texas hold 'em. Not many ppl playin pool any more.

That room in Sandy Springs is The Coner Pocket...used to be a better room, now more of a bar/hang out spot...tables are mostly young guys and boyfriend/girlfriend crowd...it was the first room I played in when I moved to GA in '92...

This spot has the makings of being the best room in town once they get the word out! I am trying to start a straight pool League out of there and I was told they are sponsoring a ACS (i believe those are the right initials) League from there also! It has some really nice tables and decor! :p

i didnt even know there was some good pool rooms around the atl area. I was around buford highway and all i found was some boot legged pool rooms. no real players. nasty equipment.

Buford Hwy is pretty bad as rooms go...I was over there last week with a buddy...we played at Hollywood Billiards...not nice but not that bad...1 Carom table...10 9ft Gandy's...Champions is over there as well, again not great...that area caters to a Latino crowd...anybody know the name of this room across the street from Cues?...I was a Cue's last weekend for an APA 8-Ball tourny, didn't even notice it...I'll look for it this weekend though...doing the clinic at Cues with Johnny Archer...anybody else?

When Bob ran the place, it stayed in pretty good shape. Then he sort of retired, I guess, and his daughters took it over. They really don't seem too interested in keeping it up...I guess it takes too much of the profit away to keep the equipment and facilities up...the men's room is absolutely disgusting. I'm not particularly picky about that sort of thing, but this one is ridiculous...it has two stalls and one was out of order for 9 months last year, and I noticed last Sunday it was out of order again. The APA has some pretty big events there sometimes, and other people like Tommy Kennedy have some fairly big tournaments there sometimes, and that restroom becomes a pretty big problem. There's only one 9-foot table in the house that doesn't have some pretty major problems with slates out of alignment, table leveling, dead cushions, loose pocket cups, etc., the balls haven't been cleaned or replaced in years...I only go there when I have to for some event. I've talked to several people recently that have told me that they moved their APA and BCA league teams out of there for those very reasons.

At one time it was a great place to play...and there's still a great crowd there (what's left of it). I just wish they would try to get the place back in shape...I'm afraid they're going to run it into the ground before it's over. It's actually much more convenient to my house, but I drive further to play on better cared-for equipment in better kept facilities at the Pool Room....and I'm not the only one.

ACS - American Cue Sports Alliance; I believe this league was started as a result of the sale of the BCA...this guy was one of, if not the largest BCA league operator in the country...dissatified with where BCA was going he broke away with like minded operators and formed ACS...

interested in starting a league in the metro?

I wonder if they play 9-ball by BCA rules? APA is the only league 9-ball game in town right now and that's like not playing 9-ball. If ACS plays "real" 9-ball, I'd sure be interested.

I'm waitin' for MrLucky to get a 14.1 league going, too....

They play WPA Rules, (ACS)...There are TAP tournys, 8&9 Ball Sat & Sun respectively at The Pool Room in Marietta...call pocket no slop, 9 on break comes up...stronger rule format than APA and better handicap system...

Yeah, there are plenty of 9-ball tournaments around, but the only 9-ball league opportunity is APA. Do you ever play the Sunday 9-ball tourney at the Pool Room?

They tried to form a TAP 9-ball league a couple of years ago, but it fell on its face...it was somewhat disorganized..I played one session of it, and that's about all it lasted.
