No offense, there is obvious effort and creativity behind this, but I think the gambling/drug/alcohol addicted pool player story has already been done. Sure would be nice for that trope to just fade off into the sunset, it isn't helping pool.

BadPenguin: this story is not about your typical alcohol addict. The alcoholism is just a sub plot. I don't know if you knew Louie Roberts back in the day but he was one of the most charismatic players of all time with a one in a million stroke and gear. And this is a true story, nothing is fictitious. There has never been a true bio story of a pool legend as a feature film before.

He was way before my time. They all seemed to be charismatic players in that time period, which fortunately or unfortunately, goes hand in hand with the lifestyles associated with various addictions. Now they are more like robots, but you can't win them all.

Regardless, we will just have to agree to disagree. I hope you prove me wrong and I would definitely watch the movie if it wasn't just another "Poolhall Junkies" that just completely trashes pool. If you can do better than Paul Newman in the Hustler, I'm all in.
