Is it better to go with one or two colors? I'm thinking about gray for the bed, and black for the rails.

I've seen it done on a showroom floor to show what the different colors would look like. I imagine replacing it would be costly as you couldn't just buy one bolt of fabric and be good to go. Instead you'd have to buy several pieces of cloth perhaps costing more.

WTF, if you want to be different, why not a different color for each rail and a two toned cloth for the bed.
Our eyes don't focus well on red/green, blue/orange, and yellow/purple color schemes. I would avoid those combinations as they will cause unnecessary eye strain.
I want bed cloth with one of Patrick Johnson's diagrams (preferably the one with all the possible shot angles that he claims CTE covers) stenciled on it.
IMHO black rails would be a nightmare to play on. Also, the contrast of two different colors (actually two different shades in the case of black and gray) would be very distracting.
You could get used to it. And your non-playing friends don't know any better. But an experienced player isn't going to want to play on it.

A guy that rebuilds tables has done this to his last two tables. Both Anniversaries. I would have loved to have played on them to see, but they sold very fast.

I have seen black bed with red rails at a place once. It looked horrible in my opinion. That was probably ten years ago.

I thought you had a post about this before and went to regular colors. May have been someone else though.
No-one on this site will recommend anything outside of green/blue/tan. And I think tan will be a distant third. Only reason I even mention tan it is that I think Buddy Hall said he did not mind the tan color that the Camel Tour used when they were talking about cloth colors.
Red and black are common to get among those that buy a pool table to match the decoration in the house rather than play on it.
I actually played on some light burgandy tables and did not find that it was that bad, although I would never get that color for my own table. On the other hand, the place the table was in has such badly setup tables that we are happy to get any table there you can play on properly never mind the colors LOL They did a half red half green setup, for decoration of course to "look cool".
Nice looking work and also a nice touch with the logo as spots, but that is a perfect example of "decoration" vs "pool table to play on" LOL

How good are your eyes and how well is the table lit?
In poor lighting, I have trouble seeing the edge of balls against dark rail cloth.

I guess I'm just a purist, especially when it comes to Anniversaries and Centennials.
I'm a firm believer that when God invented the pool table, He intended them to be green and the chalk to be square n blue...:smile:
