I know this is probably a mundane question. But, what is the purpose of the pad between the tip and ferrule? What material are they, are there differrent types? Thanks.

If you do a search. This has been cover more then a few times.:thumbup:

I don't think jaydog468 was slamming the OP. I just think that some people don't consider the search function before they ask a question. There is a wealth of information in this forum that can be accessed by searching...and then you don't have to wait for someone to answer:wink:

I was not ridicule him! There is a lot of info that could be helpful for him to read. So are you saying every cuemaker should post the same info over and over every time some one ask the same question???? Why did you not take the time to easily answered the question??

It is a pressed paper pad. On off center hits, they are supposed to spread the force over the entire tip, therefore guarding against cracking the ferrule. They are mostly used with an Ivory ferrule...JER

Bottom line is .... This site and the entire forum is for pros amatures and rookies alike.
Maybe he wasn't aware of the search function. I myself had a post in the main forum the I bummped up for 2 days straight I got the answer I was looking for quickly but kept bumping because I wanted to see what everyone else had to say on the matter. Many reasons for repeat question here so ridicule isn't always the answer
Well, FWIW, I agree with JayDog - there are a lot of repetitive questions here and that's understandable. But I don't think the technology of a tip pad has changed over the years. By trying a search first, you get to see all the answers that have been submitted over a period of time.
I know that I see a question that was just asked in the last week or two and while many may have responded at that time there are few or no responses to the repeated query. I'm guessing that people are thinking "Geez, I just answered that in a very detailed response last week and I don't feel like re-typing all that info." That is also understandable as it is human nature.
Now, the difficult part is searching on the right terms to find the posts with a similar question - I'll admit that can take a few tries, but you get better at it the more you do it.
I've suggested to folks more than once that you'll get a much better response here if you try to search/solve your problem first and then come here and ask questions like "I have this problem and I tried to solve it by doing this and that and I got this result which is not what I wanted. What am I doing wrong?"
