what kind of pads are people putting under tips? i install tips without a lathe and was wondering if putting a felt pad under the tip would help any. i havnt had any problems with tips coming off other than using old glue. is the pad something i can find at walmart or a thrift store? thanks,
Jay

Most common are fibre pads, but they don't help the tip stick or anything, and might not be easy to put on By hand. I don't think you would find them at walmart, but atlas carries them.:)

I never recommend the use of pads unless it's an ivory ferrule as they need all the help they can get. They do very little to soften a hit and it's just one more place for the glue to fail.

I aggree, I usually only use them on material prone to cracking, or that's not capped as it should be to prevent It, that is unless i'm changing the ferrule which case I choose to cap. Does nothing to help the feel IMO either, but does change It some, just not for the better IMO.

thanks for the input guys. i was under the impression that they made a stronger bond between the tip and ferrulle for phenolics and such, thanks,

The whole purpose of fiber pads is for ivory ferrules to keep them from cracking...
