I'm sure there are some I'm forgetting

I want opinions? which one's have you played on?
which one are you using on your home table?
which one would you never use or want to play on?
given a budget which one would you buy? what if you had no budget?

If you have a thought on this I wanna hear it.

Simmonis #860

Well if it is an 8 or 9 foot table I would put Simmonis #860 on it. To me that is the best felt to play on. Lots of action. If you can control the cue ball on that felt, you can control it on just about anything.

If you put it on yourself you will save a bundle on the install.

IMO, the Mali I have on my home table seems to have the best mix of durability and playability.

Simonis 860 is the default standard, and plays great, no doubt. AND, it's my favorite. But, as most will tell you, it also wears quickly.

But if you want a middle of the road cloth that is not too fast or two slow, then it may be a nice option for you. It's not really a bad thing if you play at various locations where where table conditions are all over the place.

I don't play on felt, I play on cloth. They haven't used felt since the early 1900's I believe. Sorry I had to chirp in on this one, just one of my pet peeves when people refer the the cloth we play on as "felt".

but when you make your bridge, the cloth is felt! :D :p

(unless you're bridging on the rail, or using an air bridge...)

I have played on:

Mali
Simonis 860
Championship
Brunswick

I have simonis 860 on my table and thats what I will get put on when I need another re-cloth.

I've been out of it for a few years but starting back. Got my Jensen out of the closet this week. The cloth that rolled and played the best for me was Simonis. I don't recall the number but it wasn't the fastest version.

I've played on

Simonis 860 and Championship cloth

Honestly, its a tough comparison between the two. The pool hall that i first started to goto, re-clothed two 9ft tables one with 860 and the other with Championship, both tables where next to each other.

And they both played the same.

Honestly i would say if your on a budget and want a cloth that will last a long time go with Championship.

The same pool hall re-clothed all thier 7ft tables with Championship back in june of 2004. And they still have the same cloth on the tables.

They have re-stretched the cloth, but it still plays very good.

The other pool hall i goto and play leagues at, only uses 860.

If i was new to both places, i probably wouldnt know the difference.

THANK YOU!!!!!!!

I guess we have the same "pet peeve".

Well, the loose term for pool table cloth is "felt" around here in my neck of the woods.

I have played on Simonis and Championship that I know of.
I personally cannot tell that much of a difference in the two if any.

I just want to make sure that there is not some company that I am overlooking that has great quality and durability at a good price.

You might want to also research Granito Basalt by Gorina. I can't speak from experience because I haven't played on it yet. However, researching through the forums here and on other sites, I've read people say that its on same level as Simonis in terms of quality and playability.

Some reputable posters have also said its more durable, less expensive, less prone to burn marks and those little holes from jump shots, easier to stretch (and therefore easier to install) and slightly faster than Simonis 860. Again, not my opinions, just repeating what I've read so you can check into it if you like.

Anyway, for all those reasons, I decided to try it out on my home table, which isn't set up yet. Kind of a big gamble, not having tried it personally, but hopefully I'll like it. Maybe someone who is familiar with it will comment hopefully.

I wonder if Granito Basalt will gain some popularity in the states for worsted cloth now that the they are providing the nap cloth for the IPT ("Gorina IPT Tournament Cloth").

Good luck to you.
