Ferrule change needed?

Hi guys,

I have an old first gen 314 shaft that has some ferrule damage.
Can I have a local repairman sand/cut the ferrule down, or do I have
to send it to predator for a new ferrule. Other options are welcomed too,
but I do want to keep it original/warranted.
The ferrule is .77" long now and the damage ends at .73"

thanks, Dave.

Along with a couple of others, Mike Webb is a certified repairman for Predator. I would send it to him if you're looking to get it back sooner than later.

Also, what do you mean by warranted?

i kind of like the way they play with the hollow tenon removed and a solid tenon put in and a melemine or whatever kind you like ferrule.plays and feels more like a regular Maple shaft but still low deflection.

I took it as, he wants to keep it as the original design.

I don't know that you have to send it to anyone other than the guy that's going to do your next tip, which by the way, you are ready for. I can't see the pic real clearly but that may be a mute point. Bare in mind that this is a capped ferrule and that cap is nearly 1/4" thick (.250). Have your tip guy cut the ferrule down .040 to get rid of the damage and you've still got a .210 cap on the ferrule. IMHO, you should be good to go. If it makes you feel more comfortable, have a .030 or even a .060 pad installed under the tip, not that it's necessary. Or you can send it to Predator and for $45 they'll put a new tip & ferrule on it. Your call.

Thanks for the responses so far guys.

- Cuedog, I'm in Europe so Mr. Webb isn't really an option.
- masonh, I'd like to keep the ferrule and everything original, and thus still have warranty from Predator.
- Mr. Webb, that's what I meant.
- KJ Cues, exactly the kind of info I was looking for. This isn't my playing shaft btw, I bought it for resale.

gr. Dave
