Ferrule cracking diagnosis

timely screw-up

This cue was .030" oversize & I was going to take a light cut to clean up the inlays. Obviously, I plugged in a wrong number but I caught it before anything more than the Juma joint collar was destroyed.

I cut off the old collar, picked up the threads & cut away the remains of the old collar. What's left is all of the original wood & a bit of the epoxy that absorbed into the wood. The white residue on the initial threads came from using the new collar to test the fit.

I didn't have to heat anything & risk weakening the trim ring's glue bond. And, I have a full thread form on which the new collar will be installed. Good as new and it only took about 10 minutes from start to finish.
