Ferrule Materials

Atlas Billiard doesn't really really have much in the way of information on the different types of ferrules they offer. Can anyone please tell me what MCB, LBM (linen based melamine?), and MPI are? Oh, and perhaps a little review of each?

I'm already familiar with Ivorine III. I have a McDermott with an Ivorine III ferrule. The hit is good but the material is a bitch to keep clean, and will not polish back up like others. Aegis is another ferrule material that I'm familiar with. I'd be interested in your opinions on both.

Thanks in advance,
SF

I usually install melamine ferrules but I have installed 6 or 8 ivor-x ones. Last week one came back with an apparent crack. at first I told the man that it was probably just scratched as the crack didn't run vertically but more at an angle. There was a good talisman tip on the shaft and there was no mark on the tip at all so I said that possibly it was a crack. He also said that ferrule was now making a funny sound at times. When I started cutting the ferrule off, after one pass, the crack was gone. Now, I don't know if the ivor-x ferrule got a surface crack or if the ferrule was just scratched from the tip down, without nicking the tip in the slightest. It was a rather large scratch and filled with dirt/chalk.

I've had an Ivor-x on my playing shaft for over a year.
It has no chalk stain, or scratches, and i've let other people use that cue, (couple of them are "chalk grinders" who like the bottemless pit chalk.)
I've even rubbed a new chalk cube into the ferrule (a buddy of mine wanted proof that it didn't "hold chalk" like most other ferrules,) with a good amount of pressure, there were a few specks of chalk and then i thumped the ferrule and they were gone.
I love it.
I also love LBM.
It's a toss up.
