Fibre Pad for Jacoby Hybrid Edge Shaft

Been having some issues with Jacoby Edge Shaft making a weird clicking noise when I hit firmly and when I'm using spin. Everything looks good, there's lots of tip left, but I noticed that there doesn't look like there is a fibre pad between tip and ferrel.

My question is, does the JEH shaft require a fibre pad?

They dont have a pad on from the factory and dont require one. The most common problem with a weird sound on hit is poor adhesion of tip to the ferrule or a delaminated tip. I'd have the tip changed first and if the sound persists then take a closer look at the ferrule itself.

I changed the ferrule of my Jacoby shaft to a Tomahawk one and I must say that I am very pleased with the result of the change. Nothing wrong with the original one though, I just like the crisper hit of tomahawk

Thanks for the reply. We will start by replacing the tip and go from there. I'm more concerned it could be in butt of the cue. I put a different shaft on it and got the same/similar sound.

IMO, don't change the tip Check your weight bolt for tightness, and make sure the bumper is not movable either. Another item could be if it has a stainless collar, check to make sure it doesn't twist even slightly.

Thanks Dave. The weight bolt is glued in, so that's not it. I do have a bumper that isn't the tightest. I will try putting a new one in. No SS collar either. Cheers, Brian

New tip installed, no pad. Ferrule inspected with no damage. Put the shaft on another cue of mine and couldn't replicate the sound. It's somewhere in the butt of the cue and we can't figure it out. Very frustrating..

If it's a Jacoby cue butt, I would contact them. They are pretty good folks there. If it's not, it could be any number of things including your A-joint, provided the cue isn't a full splice. Good luck.

You said it didn't have a stainless collar... Does it have a collar on it at all? If yes, did you check it for tightness? The ones I have seen like this before was a loose weight bolt.... Could be tight at the end but slightly loose at the upper end..... Hope you track down the problem...

Now this makes sense. I had a heavier weight bolt put in last July at the BCA's. This is about the time that the "miscue" sounds started. It is for sure tight at the butt end but as you say it could be at the upper end. I'm gonna have to heat up the weight bolt to get it out as I mentioned in previous posts, it's been glued in.
