Finish position for women

I've taken the Pool School advanced course with RandyG and it really changed the way I play the game. I also had a real good session with Scott Lee, and I am definitely an SPF disciple and believer (more koolaid, please)I try to encourage players who show real interest in getting their game up to visit a "real" instructor, but I try to help as much as I can when they ask.

My question is how to teach the finish position to "blessed" women. I mean no offense, I'm not sure of a better way to say it without sounding like a jackwagon. I finish my pendulum stroke at my chest just under my pectoral. I try to teach the same stroke, but it's difficult for these women, understandably, because they have an obstruction, and one sensitive to more forceful strokes.

While this is directed to the SPF gurus, I would love to hear other opinions, especially from female instructors ::coughcoughFrancough:: on how you might handle this.

TIA!

You and any player can still close your arm without hitting yourself in the chest. It requires a stance correction, and in my opinion, it would also be a better balanced position as well.

Anyone --- man or woman --- who hits their chest in their follow through would be a signal to me that they probably could use a stance correction, but I would have to see them play to see exactly how much.

Marc...The finish position is no different for women...it is just as you described. With someone who has a large belly (male) or a female with an oversized chest, usually a small stance adjustment will help them get to their "home" position, without their body getting in the way. I'm pretty sure Randy will say the same thing. BTW, I'll be in Lafayette next month, if you're interested in any followup.

A small adjustment in the stance should fix the problem.

"Home" is different for everyone. When you find "Home", you are not lost....randyg

I agree. As an example of an "endowed" woman who 1.) plays at an extremely high level, and 2.) implements a snooker stance (which puts the chin on the cue and gives even less "clearance" in that endowment area than a standard 45-degree-to-the-shot-line pool stance), a small adjustment is necessary.

My fiancee is also endowed and, while still a beginner / learning player, she compensates by standing a bit higher. I'm still working with her to get her lower to the shot, and it is indeed possible.

Hope this is helpful!

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'll see if I can get her to the right stance.

Scott, are you coming in for the White Diamonds tournament next month, or are you just passing through? I would like to introduce you to my home room manager and see if maybe we can get a pool school going in the near future. She is trying to build up her clientele, and I think that Lafayette should be a have a big enough pool to draw from.

Thanks again to everyone!

Marc...I'm doing a couple of lessons in the area, and visiting my friend. I would certainly be interested in doing a 3-day pool school in Lafayette! Let's get together when I'm in town.
